  1. The disparity in Ford vs. others is an interesting topic. Chevy out sold Ford in a number of years, and if you compare the two on any given year you ca certainly see Chevy's appeal. Ford's have a much higher survival rate, which I suppose is due to wood in the Chevy bodies (?). The value today of 32 Ford vs. Chevy is probably very similar (although reversed) to that for 1957.

  3. Looks like a good driver. Text of ad is below the pictures. 1938 Ford Standard 2 door Sedan For Sale or Trade. This is an all original, factory, period correct 1938 barn find Ford. It’s known as the humpback for its touring sedan-style trunk. It’s a complete car. Any rust or cancer this vehicle had has been repaired/replaced, welded in with US made metal and US made patch panels. I’ll show you everything that has been worked on, replaced, addressed or caught. As well as, what I’ve found that could use or needs attention. I have nothing to hide. The hood is included and is now on the car. It was restored in the late 70s. The body was skim coated with bondo and it’s cracking/flaking off in certain areas. So, it could use body work/paint or just simply enjoy it, drive it as it’s. It does run, drive and stop smooth for its age. It steers well, I’d adjust the brakes soon. I have a clean, clear CA title in my name. It’s registered expires December 2022. It has the larger and less common standard factory option 21 stud Flathead 221ci, 3.6liter v8 (85hp), the big one, Not the thrifty 60 (60hp) 136ci Flathead v8. The engine was rebuilt in the late 1970s (when the car was restored) and it only has about 6,000 miles on it. The odometer reads 870 miles (rebuilt Speedometer, odometer/gauge cluster)and will continue to slightly go up as I do drive it weekly. It’s got oil pressure and it runs cool. I professionally flushed the complete cooling system (radiator and block), it idles between 160-170 and runs between 160-180. New period correct ford script radiator hoses were installed. It has the factory 3 speed (floor shift) transmission and rear differential which work as they should. I’ve recently changed the oil in the engine, trans and rear differential. This ritual has been performed every 500-1000miles between myself and the previous owner. The fuel tank was also dropped, boiled, the fuel lines were all replaced, the fuel pump was replaced and it has a rebuilt Stromberg 97 carburetor. The bumpers have both been professionally rechromed, all the stainless/trim has been removed straightened and polished with the exception of a couple small pieces. All the gauges and lights work as well as the horn. The interior, wood grain dash, wood grain window garnish moldings, seat and door panels are in great shape for their age, it could eventually use a new rubber floor mat. New oil, temp and amp gauge. New oil and coolant sending unit, new speedometer gauge and cable, odometer works, new dimmer switch, rebuilt brake light switch, new bulbs, it has some new factory style cloth wiring under the dash, through the firewall. Not all of the wiring has been replaced, but everything works. New battery, cables, rebuilt generator, new belt, recent tuneup, plugs, wires, new coil, rebuilt water pump, still 6 volt, all the glass is there, but some of it is delaminating. The passenger side front and drivers side rear (flat glass) do have some cracks in them. All the window/lock mechanisms were lubed/greased/oiled. Both doors will lock from the inside. Exterior door lock is inoperable. All the windows roll up and down freely except for the drivers side rear. I can get you high quality glass, window felt, and US made rubber for this vehicle if and when you want it. The trunk is in nice shape, has new factory style paneling, a new high quality reproduction Ford rubber trunk mat and has everything included from the factory (tools) & even the spare tire. This is a pretty well preserved car (besides the bondo) great example of a true, period correct early ford v8, that has been stored indoors the majority of its life. It’s getting very hard to find these original, factory, untouched cars. It has good quality Universal Tire Co. (Out of Lancaster, PA) factory size 6.00-16, ford embossed white wall tires with plenty of tread left. The factory pressed 16” steel wheels. The exterior specs of this vehicle include length:179.5in, height:68.6in, wheelbase:112in, front track:55.5in, rear track:58.3in, it seats 5, it has 2 doors and it weighs 2,740lbs. I’ll include any spare/extra and new parts I have acquired for the vehicle including an extra fender, hubcaps, new trunk rubber, misc rubber, etc. Please respect my time, serious inquiries only. No emails, call/text only. I prefer cash, but I am open to hearing trade offers. I’m asking $13.,500.00obo cash or trade. The car is located in Camarillo, Ca. Thank you kindly I appreciate your time. -Danny 1938 Ford Standard 2 door Sedan For Sale or Trade. This is an all original, factory, period correct 1938 barn find Ford. 4. No much to learn from the ad, but if you are looking for one it could be good (or not). For sure it doesn't look as good as this picture today.... 4 Door convertible. Unrestored, with parts. Can view in Oakland. $9,500 OBO e352c5e6f0b437f1b1c3fcbee506e82a@sale.craigslist.org
  5. Volvo P1800 vs. SAAB Sonnet III is really apples and oranges, or maybe apples and apricots. A Sonnet has a curb weight of about 1800lbs and the Volvo weighs about 2500. That's a BIG difference and it carries through everything and really represents the different design philosophies of the two companies, at least during the period when these cars were produced. I do give Volvo high marks for beauty...the Sonnet was only pretty in the first version, which was never produced.

  8. About 1979 I owned a glass shop in a small mountain town in California. I guy I knew bought one of these as a project. He got the mechanical done and had it painted and brought it to me for glass. It was a project because none of the original glass was present...I needed to make new wooden patterns and test them in the openings. I got it all done but the guy didn't pick it up for a month and the day before he showed up, one of my guys dropped a patio door on it. https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/d/hollister-1941-graham-hollywood/7456592087.html 1941 Graham Hollywood, Supercharged, older restoration, In Great Condition, Drive it homeLocated in a Museum in Hollister, CA….You will be purchasing it from the museum….Can only be seen on WednesdaysWith an appointment from 11:00 to 1:30…..Contact Bill for an appointment or further information (831) 801-7375
  9. Seems a fair price.... https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1937-packard-model-115c-4-door-touring-sedan.1165193/ (contact email is at the bottom) If you like patina, this old Packard has gobs of it. Has replacement flat head six engine with less than 5000 miles. I had it rebuilt in 1972 and used it sparingly, and was also in long time storage. Has factory 3 speed floor shift. Clutch is good. Original engine and trans available. Car is unmodified, the way Detroit built it. The temperature gage is in-op, and is backed up by an under dash unit. All others work, as does the horn, and speedometer. Windshield wiper system is currently in-op. I'm trouble shooting it. Windows roll up and down. None broken, but some delamination. Emergency brake, charging system, and all lights work. Recent parts are; brake shoes, wheel cylinders, master cylinder, steel lines where needed. wiring harness, complete exhaust system, gas tank with sending unit, fuel pump, 4 inch whitewalls. Correct 16 inch stainless trim rings and hub caps, blue dot tail lights, good spare tire with extra hubcap, jack, and tools. Interior needs work, but is largely serviceable. Solid cabin and trunk floors. Runs, drives, and stops. Brakes are factory Bendix hydraulic. No cables! Needs T.L.C. Usable as is. Good open title. Price reduced to $7500. Drive it away! PM me with your questions. wpereira38@comcast.net.
  10. Looks like a fair deal, but I've been to Yerington and it's quite a ways from just about anywhere. Too bad they don't show the silage grinder! https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1926-ford-t-silage-grinder-farm-wagon-original-running-gear.1258349/ Neighbor without a computer asked me to post this for him.I have additional pics to email if wanted.1926(?) Model T Ford. Body is barely there but it is pretty much complete mechanically. He says the engine turns over but I have not verified that.He says he has a set of fenders for it but I have not seen them yet.Pretty cold and windy day.I will get pics of fenders if there is interest in this T.With the Silage grinder it is $100.00 more.

  13. Weird that this dealer doesn't seem to wash cars. Maybe they want the "barn find" effect. I believe if it's a '30 6 cyl, it's a CM (not CJ). Might be a nice car if it was cleaned up. I do have to give credit for the use of the lawn furniture pad to catch what ever is leaking. https://www.plattmotors.com/vehicle_pages/6500263-1931-chrysler-cj-used-anderson-ca.shtml Location: Anderson, California 96007 Stock #: 1931cj VIN #: 6500263 Transmission: Manual Condition: Excellent Exterior: red Seller’s Description: 1931 Chrysler CJ Same family for over 60 years! 14. Great info! I ordered a copy of the book from Amazon for $20. Gotta love the internet (just watch what you believe if you're not on this forum)
  15. Can someone suggest a book or other source that would give year by year mechanical design info on pre-1930 Buicks? What I'm looking for is a sort of year by year mechanical history. What year did they get oil to the valve train? Were there ever counterweighted cranks? Full pressure oil to the mains? How was the intake porting revised? That sort of technical stuff. Most books seem to concentrate on the bodywork. Thinking about shopping for one...
  16. We have a young friend who is just beginning her career as a public school teacher. She bought a used Fiat 500e for $10,000 to get there. A year ago she would have only paid $7K.
  17. Think about how long it took cars to replace the horse. The German Army still had thousands of horses at the beginning of WWII, and some delivers were still made via horse and cart in the US in that period. It's happening and changes do happen faster these days, but we are still many decades from full electrification.
  18. In California, getting a new title would probably involve having it towed to a CHP office for an inspection to verify the VIN (yes, I know T's don't have them but rules are rules).
  19. I really enjoyed his books! As I was reading them, I often reflected on his amazing life; born into the film business, he had a D type Jag as a teen ager and sometimes got to kiss Annette Funicello. Hard to beat that!

It has been painted and has its share of minor dents and scratches but overall a nice car. Could use tires as it is in Arizona but they do hold air and I drive the car locally. No rips in the seats, has original jack and hand crank, Oak Wheels are in great shape, 2 piece windshield and top piece of glass is original, bottom has no markings but seems to be very old, all gauges and lights work, has a brand new top and I am told the back window is original. Mileage is what is listed on the odometer but is unknown. Feel free to contact me and ask any questions and/or more pictures. Clean Notarized Arizona title is ready to go and I can help with shipping. Asking $15900 but accepting offers. Needs to go as I have limited space in my garage and have another project to put in there. Thank you email: 9476c18121be38349a71ce8542cdd198@sale.craigslist.org
