  1. This is where the optional rear window defroster switch would go. It would be labelled “accessory.”
  2. Agreed Jason. It didn’t take too long for the leather on the seat bottom to become baggy for this generation Riviera.
  3. The car was at the ROA international meet in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin in 2001. GM had sent it along with Silver Arrow I, the Riviera pace car and another car or two. The story we were told was that the individual responsible for the build had sought permission to build it and was turned down. He went and built it anyway and was dismissed for his efforts. I took several pictures of it while at the meet.
  4. Westley’s sold out to Black Magic several years ago. The formula was modified to be more environmentally friendly. It still works but you can no longer spray on and hose off.
  5. White custom interior was available mid-production but not sure of the month it became available.
  6. The same would apply for a car with a white interior.
  7. Hi Tom. I rent space in a local antique co-op mall and I took the set there late this morning as I put it up for sale. I will be going back early next week and I can take the pictures then.
  8. I had a Marx set as well that came with two 1962 Corvette’s and a T’Bird. That one got a lot of use (abuse?).
  9. Here you go Tom. Note the transformer cord is still factory wrapped and has never been plugged in. Unfortunately, I don’t have the original box as it disintegrated years ago.
  10. I have an Aurora slot car set that I got for a gift back in 1964 and it has never been set up. I got the box out this week. As you can see, the 1963 Riviera was available. My set came with a Corvette split window coupe, AC Cobra and a Mack truck. A quick check on the internet shows the Riviera can still be bought.
  11. Welcome to the group. It looks like your door jamb switch is working so you are off to a good start.
  12. These are 1969/1970. The Riviera used the same wheel cover but had the Riviera logo instead of the Buick tri-shield.
  13. When I had my 1964 (for 24 years) I collected a number of junk yard parts over those years including a shoe box full of the 1965 glove box emblems. As a custom touch, I used them on the door sill plates. I used 2 sided tape and placed them over the Fisher Coach emblems. They fit perfectly in the recessed area and looked like a factory installation. How ironic was it for Buick to do something very similar for the last generation Riviera?
  14. The Riviera by Buick emblem comes off a 1965 glove box door.
  15. Bob, stick with the turbines. You will regret polishing the wiper arms for reason stated above. Too much bling is not a good thing!
  16. The first generation cars without the remote trunk release seem to have survived longer/better for obvious reasons as well.
  17. Wheel speed sensors are a common failure. Not cheap to fix. If anti-lock light is on and the cruise doesn’t work, that is usually the cause. Fuel gauge sending unit WILL fail. Ask if it is original or has been replaced. Intake manifold gasket will also fail. Ask the same question. Seatback pouches will break away from the seat if filled with items or used to pull the seat back. Steering column fractures are common. Follow this thread back for more information. If car spent time around road salt, check the front sub-frame mounting areas for rust. Electronic gremlins eventually creep in with age on any GM car of this vintage. Hope this helps.
  18. In the vernacular, I agree with you Ed. However, in this particular case and after reading John Phillips articles and books for 30+ years, I am sticking with my original assessment.
  19. No further details. That is all that was in the book. My interpretation would be that they are all 1963’s but I don’t know for sure.
  20. I am in the process of reading the book “Four Miles West of Nowhere” by one of my favorite automotive authors, John Phillips. He semi-retired to remote Darby, Montana a few years ago. He had the privilege to tour a private 100+ car collection owned by a wealthy recluse (no name mentioned) spread over 3 buildings. In one of the buildings were “seven original Buick Rivieras.” Just curious if any member knows of this collection?
