  1. Several months ago I joined AACA. I have received so much help here and such a warm welcome, that it was an easy decision to make. My mail has been hard to get due to it being forwarded to TX and also due to that forwarding expiring accidentally. That being said, I recently received the January/February and March/April issues of the magazine. This is such a beautiful magazine with thick, slick pages and beautiful photographs. There are also some interesting articles and of course ads and classifieds. It is so nice to see this in an age of hard copy publications that are becoming more and more scarce. I'm as savvy about online magazines and technology as anyone, but there is still something very satisfying about seeing the beautiful pictures of automobiles on the shiny, glossy pages. Thank you AACA for continuing to publish such a quality magazine.
  2. Thanks everyone for the very detailed and helpful info. I can always count on you guys to answer my questions thoroughly. In fact, y'all do such a good job that I think I'm going to start asking you for advice on my personal problems too!
  3. Thanks Grog. I had visions of taking a hammer to the side. LOL A heel of my hand on the bottom makes much more sense! Also, thanks for the tip on the oily rags.
  4. Thank you! A whack? Won't it explode? Side, bottom, top? Sorry I have no experience with fire extinguishers. Appreciate the info.
  5. Oh Gosh Joe, that is horrible. So sorry you went through that! I appreciate the great advice!
  6. NASCAR, my former boyfriend watched it and called it his 100 lap nap. Watched the beginning and the end and fell asleep in the middle. I saw last years race in Sanoma. It was my first time in person. It's more fun IMHO, but I am surprised with how much advertising plays a part in this sport. I just started watching last year.
  7. Recently I have realized that it's probably a good idea for me to know a little about fire extinguishers. Which are best for the garage and to carry in the car? How do I tell if an older one is still operable? (Dad has several, but no idea how old.) What do I need to know about how they work and if they will damage paint on cars, etc? Thanks guys, ~V
  8. Not sure if that's genius or just plain nuts! Entertaining to watch though!
  9. Perhaps a better question is who have had losses and who handeled them well? I use JC. I can tell you when I have to add or delete it's smooth via email. Never had a claim though.
  10. Thanks John. I have worked very hard to learn as much as I can in the last three years. My background in real estate helps a lot and so does all the help I have received from you and many members here. The help has been invaluable and I have tried to use all the info to speed up my learning curve. I am so very grateful. This forum is one of many I've been on. In some I was treated rudely and others just didn't get the help I have here. From the bottom of my heart I thank all of you that have helped guide me in this process. I wouldn't have accomplished what I have without the help.
  11. Thanks for the info. As I have been liquidating and researching my father's cars for nearly the last three years, I have come to notice that what you are saying is true. It seems to me right now 60 cars are starting to peak and 70's are starting to build. 80's are about at thier bottom. At least as a rule that is what my guess is. I sold a '24 T and '30 A right away because I thought the buyers would eventually disappear. Lol. (Both buyers were in their 70's). At any rate I just don't have it in me to sell dad's favorite car yet, especially when I have other cars to focus on. Everyone gave me the advice to drive it and enjoy it. I think a deep sense of emotional loss is stopping me. I'm cleaning out my father's garages and he's always had garages. It's a reality that his end is near which is hard to face. I'm sure eventually I will be able to sell it or drive it. Right now I'm just trying to maintain it and keep it insured. I appreciate the advice, really I do.
  12. I have a soft spot for HMN. As a child I read my father's issues. I have always enjoyed thumbing through the entire magazine. I'm a little annoyed at it now because I have 5+ decades of heavy boxes of them I'm trying to get down from tall shelves in my father's garage and haul off somewhere. Those older issues are very heavy! Lol. Truth be told I haven't thrown one box away yet as I keep hoping someone will want them. I subscribe only to the online version now which works well for me. I like the hard copies but with so many back issues right now I can't see ordering it. I put an ad in a few months ago for a car but I sold it via a Facebook group with an eBay link before it was even in the printed version. I did however get a few calls on it from the issue it appeared in and will probably sell some flathead engines and parts as a result. I agree that it's helpful to see the advertisers. As someone who is liquidating my father's collection, both the website and the older hard copies have been invaluable as a pricing tool, vendor and parts resource and has helped me identify many items as well. I use other online resources too, but sometimes it is just easier to pick up dad's hard copies. I still enjoy reading it cover to cover. It has brought some familiarity to me in a very challenging process of liquidating my father's life. I was so relieved it was still available and I hope it's around for a lot longer even though I'm sure things will have to change to keep up with the world.
  13. Every one of my dad's cars has a tire pressure gauge in the glovebox.
  14. Drove a '98 SLK (Hard Top Retractable) last summer a lot. I LOVE it! They are not expensive either and the fit and finish is excellent!
  15. This '79 Lincoln Town Car would be in your budget. I have been driving it preparing it for sale and it's like riding on a cloud. Something to consider. You might also check out specific car groups in your area to see which ones are active locally. They have events that would be fun to get involved in. Good luck on your search!
  16. Unfortunately, the car is not on there. Some close numbers, but not the right one. I appreciate the effort though! The VIN is J58S105625
  17. Thank you! Yes I have the Vin. I will check this out!
  18. I just heard back and he does not have dad's car. I knew it was a long shot but at least I tried!
  19. I tried that but could not find a resource for whose car it is.
  20. She emailed a couple times but haven't found out yet. Primarily his is a different color blue. He actually has a '63 split window like my father had in the right color but I didn't mention that.
  21. I was told the '58 on "That 70's Show" was his, but I've seen pics of his '58 recently and it doesn't look the same. I think I was given incorrect info so there is really no chance it's the same car. I can't find any info on whose car was in that show. Any ideas? They originally made about 2000 cars in the grey blue metallic color like my dads. I have no idea how many are still on the road but I'm sure it's a needle in the haystack.
  22. No, I've just see pics here and there.
  23. Hummmm. I sold this '24 T for 10k last year and it ran and was in beautiful shape. Is there that much difference for a few years? I wouldn't think so.
