  1. I hope it isn't the chain. The car still starts pretty easy and drives (Drove it off the flat bead and into the garage). Hardly has any power (obvious with those compression numbers) but I think that if the timing was off that much it would be a bear to start and idle. That is my hope at least. A broken spring would explain the 0 compression. Maybe it is just time for a valve job. I wouldn't mind taking the engine out anyway so i can clean and repaint it.
  2. Last week I took the 41 Desoto to get inspected. Passed with flying colors but while out running some errands it died doing about 50 mph. Sounded like rocks in a can but the noise went away when I pushed in the clutch to coast. Soon as I released the clutch the noise would start again. Finally got around to checking compression today. 65, 0, 60, 35, 50, 65. NOT GOOD. It always smoked a bit so I figured the valves or rings were tired but not THAT bad. Looks like one or both of the #2 valves let loose. When I get a chance I will removed the inspection cover and see what is going on. Any ideas?
  3. I have had great luck on CL both buying and selling. Bought my Desoto there. Sold my last two MGBs there. Sold probably a few dozen motorcycles in the last few years. I rice them very reasonable so 75% of the time the first person to show up ends up buying it. It is not the place to try and get top dollar. You will have 20 people come by and kick tires. I don't haggle. Price it fair and stick to it. If you have nice stuff it will sell quickly.

  7. Seriously! Turns out they plate it with unobtainium, hand buff it with the fur of a endangered Siberian Mountain yak then it is delivered and installed by Eva Mendes.

  9. No offense but it is going to be VERY hard to get anyone to pay $900 for magazines. The shipping and storage alone would be tough. You would be better off breaking it into groups. Gather up the easily sold covers of certain cars (vettes, mopars and so on) and sell 5 at a time. It would take a while but not near as long as it would take to get $900 for the lot.
  10. It is called a reverse lace knock offs. Regular lace wheels have the spokes close to the lip. Yours looks a little rusted or dirty. Someone would buy it for a spare. They are around $600-700 each new. You can try CL but the market is going to be small. eBay would be better. Count the spokes so you can list it correctly (between 72-180. more spokes means more money). Here is one that sold on eBay. Asking price was $100 but an offer was accepted but doesn't say how much. Looks to be in a bit betetr shape than yours.   11. Big difference between restorer and dealer. You see the same thing in historic houses. Someone will go through the trouble of sanding ans staining wood to bring it back to it's original beauty. The buyer will say "The house is beautiful but too bad about all the dark wood". A few hours with a paint brush and all that hard work is hidden behind the latest popular pain color. Out of your garage, out of your hands. Still a shame though
  12. Never heard of ti but it would be cool to listen to. Looks like they are easy to find on vinyl collector site and on ebay form time to time for around $40.
  13. Indy didn't have a board track. Here is a list of the board tracks in the US from that era. The picture looks like it has a fairly long straightaway so that rules out probably anything less than 1.25 miles. If you have a magnifying glass take a look at he signs and let us know what they say. It might not be a US race track.   16. I would just hate to have it too far away. Right now I am able to take it out and bring it back whenever I want. I take it to a few shows a year. I know most museums won't allow that but I at least want it to be close enough so I can visit once a year or so.
  17. Nice to finally see a clean, classy showroom. I am sick of seeing the showrooms and garages where every square inch is taken up by old signs, neon, banners, hubcaps and anything else that can be nailed to a wall. Hard to concentrate on the car with all that visual noise around. Your place looks more like an art gallery and the exhibits are beautiful. The hard work has certainly paid off.
  18. I always thought it would be a good idea to open a lot that specializes in beginner antique and classic cars under $20,000. Is there any place where you can go and look at 30 or so collector cars from $3000-20,000? There are tons of cars that you could buy for $2000-7000 and sell for $5000-15000 with a little work and detailing. You could offer services like basic maintenance and tune ups. You can't throw a stick anymore without hitting a dealer that specializes in $100K Vettes, $600K Ferrari and of course the over priced muscle cars. It would be nice to have a place that carried nice, clean driver quality classics that anyone could afford. It is a good way to get people into a hobby that if you watch TV you would think is affordable.

  20. Might be useful to others but not me. In order to view the free museums I have to log in using my Facebook account which I am not willing to do (do not want to give anyone access to my account). Also I hesitate to submit payment to most online businesses, especially overseas. Most any car in the world can easily be seen on Google or youtube so I don't see myself paying to view them in a museum unless in person. Good luck with the website as I am sure there are many people int he world that will love what you have developed.

  22. If you saw my earlier post it looks like we are moving to Richmond, VA next year. I have a 57 Simson SR2 moped, only known one in the country. It is in almost perfect original condition. Currently it is on loan and displayed at the Glenn Curtiss aviation museum in Hammondsport, NY. I will be looking for a museum in the Richmond area that would like to display it. I don't want to sell it but also don't want it damaged in my garage. I would much rather have it out so people can enjoy it. Any suggestions?
  23. But we have almost 20 seasons to fall back on. I watch them on Netflix and even one I watched years ago seems new when I watch it again. I hope Captain Slow and Hammond stand behind Jeremy and walk away as soon as their contracts allow. I saw May interviewed a few days ago at his house. He said he was going inside to put his Ferrari on eBay, hahaha.
