RockinRiviDad what is the part number you used to order those fuzzies

    Paul

I will be home tomorrow & get that info for u

    edit:

wow, it’s been 5 years since I bought these. Pulled box off shelf & once again, I was pleasantly surprised how nice these felts look. I loosely test fit each piece to my existing felts & they look identical. Except for the small offset in the outer felt above the door handle. Doesn’t look hard to put the offset in when installing tho.

Box is labeled with the Mfg Co. logo “Repops” (Montco Mfg.) & sold thru Rubber the Right Way (maybe others too).

Price has gone up by almost $30 in 5 years…inflation I guess?

I do like that they have a Lifetime Warranty to the original owner IF u send in the registration form within 30 days of purchase…I didn’t ??‍♂️

With the start of this thread I was inspired to call my local upholstery guy for a quote on installation of these felts. I said I would remove all the old trim, take it to him to R&R the felts with staples like original. $250 was the quote ? I didn’t think it would be so high. Then I noticed there are staples & screws with install instructions included in this box. Sweet!! Maybe I’ll install myself ??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️

Coincidentally, before all this talk, I recently saw a 64 at his shop with new window felts installed using rivets. He didn’t do the install but he pointed out its an easier install that some guys prefer. He said the rivets are way too visible & scream “look at me” to detail oriented guys like most of us. So DONT USE RIVETS haha

Sorry for long post…hope this helps…

  2. Great ideas…thank guys…

I just looked for the Tefba filter on YouTube. Coincidentally, I found a dude with a 63 Riv showing his approach using a window screen. Lots of rusty junk came out of his Nailhead…I hope mine isn’t that bad ?

David, since you had plenty of coolant in the car, this is rust that was not gotten out of the block when the engine was overhauled.

On a car that sat as long as yours did, giant chunks of rust can form and it is difficult to get it all out.

    Makes sense.

So now what? Is replacing of my coolant on a regular basis my only hope? Or is there some sort of additive that can help break it down before I drain & refill the system?

  4. I don’t know what it takes to tool up for projects like this. At a price of $60 a plaque I’m guessing the tooling is pretty steep. Thx for offering the service ??

But Bob @ Scanlan Veneer, where I bought my walnut wood door inserts, has been making/selling these for years…at the same price of $20 like mentioned in post #1

Sorry, I can't help with the rust issue, but I know it does happen, probably should not so soon, but it does happen.

I think your door panel looks great!

    Thank you.

Went on vacation. Not much time to sort out this rust issue.

I once had the attention of some mechanics on this forum. I was hoping one would chime in. My fault for dragging this build on for so long & hacking my car up haha. They prob lost interest ?

  6. Nobody knows if this rusty discovery is normal huh? Oh well...the plan is to change my coolant with every oil change.

Hope u all had a good Father’s Day. Family was good to me ?...I got my walnut wood inserts from Robert @ Scanlan Classic Auto Veneer...SUPER nice guy...SUPER nice product...Apparently, there is two different shades to choose from. There a gold oak like shade & this darker brown shade that I absolutely LOVE... thx for the recommendation Robert...LOVE the “Proudly Made in the USA” touch ?

I will call this my Mickey Mouse’d door panel revival haha...it took many steps to tear down, disassemble, clean, apply veneer, reassemble & reinstall panels...I did not fully rebuild my panels....I probably should...door cards need to be replaced but I

reused them along with the old vinyl/carpet too...if anyone wants to donate a paint job for my car then I’ll redo these panels the right way ?...even after taking all the shortcuts that I took to get these panels nicer I still clocked TONS of hours...& I’m still not quite finished...but I’m liking the results...so far, so good

  8. I like this new approach the forum mod’s are taking...years ago I had issues with an exhaust vendor who’s ad I found in the Riview...I posted a “Buyer Beware” thread to let the forum know & named the vendor...I got slapped on the wrist by the mod’s ?‍♂️

BTW...i love the catalog...its sooo pretty hahah...i just gawk at how nice the parts on my car SHOULD look like haha

  9. I have THEE guy for u...he’s an old timer too...he helped me with my clamshells...but he’s an upholstery guy...go figure haha...but for whatever reason, I can’t tell where u live...I tired looking on your profile...aren’t we suppose to fill out our profile & be on first name basis here?? (Thats what someone barked at me when I first joined haha) Sorry...I haven’t been hanging around here like I used to...I’m sure things are different now...

Anyway, if u are anywhere near the San Fernando Valley part of Los Angeles Ca. Then u gotta go see Bill Griggs @ 11784 Sheldon St., Unit 3, Sun Valley CA 91352...(818) ‭606-7712‬

here is a 64 he just did the headliner & sail panels (Clarks products) on when I showed up for help with my clamshells.

  10. As usual...one step forward two steps back...at least I’m consistent haha

    EDIT:

My EFI has a digital display showing the basics functions. In an effort to clean up my wiring mess I removed my aftermarket analog gauges. This is what I found when I pulled the temp sensor out of the block...?...Is it normal to have rust in the block??

Are my eyes playing tricks on me? Does my coolant look a little brown too? I’m at the 800-900 mile mark since my radiator repair ?.

David, you're getting so much done so fast right now I would suggest calling the fire department because your hair is on fire!

By the way, your engine compartment looks fantastic. It looks like your rear seat frames spent some time on the deck of the TITANIC!

    HAHAHA...your crazy...I like you...but your crazy haha

thank for the compliment  sir...that means a lot...

  12. Sorry…I lied…

Seats actually came out cuz I wanted to scrape the old sound deadener from under the rooftop (dirty work ?). Scraped, cleaned & rattle canned it with Rustoleum.

Once I did all that I said ‘what the heck? May as well do the floors’…

  13. Horrible seat bottom pix right? Sorry…I know…I know…this is suppose to be family show…?

Seats has to come back out in order for me to get after crumbling seam sealer, wire brushing rust, good cleaning with pre-paint prep & finally a bath of KBS (POR15 type stuff).

  14. A couple pix from the show...one just outside & one inside. Kinda looks like the a$$ is riding lower huh? I’m not liking the tail dragger look. I hope it was from all the gear I was carrying in the trunk (canopy, 3 chairs, toolbox, backpack, radio, ice chest & skateboard haha)

I was the only Riv...she brought some attention ?. That guy in the white hat has a 65 Riv. He LOVED to see another Riv at a show. He says he never sees them. He needed some parts that I had spares of. But then he disappeared when other fam & friends show up. I didn’t get his name or number...

So that we'll know what to expect, from whom did you get your fiberglass package tray?

Someone asked about my tray in Post #158. I thought I posted all the info about this package tray in Post #164. I had to dig thru this thread to find I was wrong. I purchased the tray from the same guy most of u bought from...Lee Sulis. At the time, he was the only guy advertising package trays in the Riview. For the record I am by no means bashing the work or end result of my package tray as u can read in Post #164. I shoulda bought mine right after my buddy bought his 2 from Lee. I procrastinated & when I finally pulled the trigger Lee had been forced to stop working due to health issues & he was trying to sell off the molds (or whatever they are called). He offered to sell me this tray of mine at a great price with the explaination of it being in poor condition. I still think its in GREAT shape comapared to my original.

Rumor is Lee Sulis is back to making more?? Is that true?? If so & u are thinking about buying one dont hesitate. I saw the two my buddy bought & they look awesome. Oh, one of those trays is on that Rivi on the Jay Leno show.

Beautiful! Good job david. Also like the temporary solution to the interior panels. Looks way better than before.

Thank you Sir...I really appreciate the support...this is a ton of work...I had no clue what I signed up for...wife hates this car haha

Since your plug wires are all tidy and snug you might want to consider a pair of these nifty covers for them

Hey! I thats my other buddy’s Nailhead. We were just texting haha...I saw the pic & thought “oh, Greg chimed in” hahah

thank u...I will consider them...they would be a nice addition

  16. My seat frames are rotted & cushions are deteriorating..shhhh...don’t tell anyone...its our little secret haha...that didn’t stop me from throwing the seats back in for the car show haha...my fiberglass package tray is also a lumpy mess...I will have to do some bodywork on it to get it straight. But a little black paint help blend it in a bit...NOT haha. I also have to cut slits in the front edge for the speaker grill. This ‘slapping things together’ thing is actually beneficial. I see that the package tray may need more than just a little bodywork. I tried to fit the contoured metal moldings that sit on the package tray at the base of the sail panel & there is a HUGE gap at the rear between the tray & molding. So left those out for now

  17. My door panels have seen better days. They were in bad shape. Lots of water damage. My plan was to scrape off the varnish, sand, add a little stain to mask the water stains on the wood, then varnish again.  Lots of work. Well the wood was too far gone & it took the stain like caca. It got way too blotchy for me. So I decided to lay the stain on heavy & call it good for the car show. Its definitely better than before. But I think I will be happier with the wood panels. Father’s Day is coming & the walnut kit is in the crosshairs

  18. I’ve always liked how some guys run their spark plug wires super nicely. Makes the Nailhead & engine compartment look super clean. So I gave it a whirl, I bought custom cut to fit spark plug wires. Looking back, I coulda did a little better. But not to bad for my first time. I cut a couple too short & a couple too long...oh well...live & learn. I also started hiding my wiring by running wire looms under driver side fender. I also plan to relocate the horn relay/junction box in order to run my battery lead in the same manner.
