  1. John: I wasn't going to repost this Mercury until I read this: "Reason for selling is we are possibly moving soon, and I wouldn’t be able to take this with us and I’d like to see it go to someone who could button it up and really enjoy it." As the moving date closes in, reality will set-in as well. Someone may then buy this Mercury for the $2K-$3K that is really what it's worth. Although it's a base Monterey, the power steering, power brakes and especially air conditioning are a plus. Steve
  2. Pure conjecture on my part, but at $1,585 factory priced for the Model EW sedan, if this Studebaker has local history, it was originally purchased by a relatively prosperous gentleman who could afford a car that with transportation charges etc might have been nearly $2,000. Perhaps a banker, businessman, rancher, mine owner, etc. to traverse the broad arid expanses in relative comfort and capable of higher speeds, much more so than a Ford, Chevrolet, Overland, Essex. Studebaker had a vast dealer network in place from their position as the number one producer of wagons, carriages, buggies in America during the 19th century. Battle Mountain, Nevada would likely have had a Studebaker dealer who took up selling cars as the world transitioned to the new mode of transportation. A Studebaker Commander, along with a Buick Master Six, or Nash Advanced Six, or Willys-Knight 66 were all solid, respectable choices for the prosperous if modest gentleman and his family.
  3. This is the interior of this progressively styled 1930 Jordan Speedway Model Z Ace roadster, the designer of which is a mystery. Given the multiple advanced details possibly was one of the major designers active at the time creating this design as a consultant to Jordan.
  4. A little darkening and sharpening make it look more immediate:
  5. Next to the convertible at 684 units, the 9-passenger station wagon is the second rarest 1962 Custom 880.
  6. Ed: Was this Bentley in a group tour in Colorado back in September? We encountered six '20's Bentleys on Route 285 near Buena Vista one morning when I was visiting then. Seeing them made my day... Steve

  9. For Sale: 1964 Mercury Monterey Breezeway 4dr Sedan, A/C - Project - $8,500 - Smithville, MO - Still Available, Price Reduced to $7,500: 1-19-2023: See New Link Below. 1964 Mercury Monterey Breezeway Sedan - cars & trucks - by owner -... (craigslist.org) Seller's Description: Up for sale is my 1964 Mercury Monterey Breezeway Sedan. This car has 103,430 original miles as of the ad posting and will possibly go up as we do take it out on the weekends. Clean & clear Missouri title in hand. I am the third owner and have some registration paperwork dating back to the 60’s from the original owners. This car was built in St. Louis in late 1963 and lived its life in Lawrence KS, the 1970’s KU parking pass and high school stickers are still in the window, I didn’t want to remove any of it for the nostalgia.Everything in the car works except the AC and Radio (ac pulley spins freely though, and fans blow on all speeds so it might just need charged).Finished in Fawn exterior with tan interior, this is a 390 big block, Holley 500 2 barrel, 3spd Merc-O-Matic car optioned with AC & PS. I’ve gone through and done a full tune up with fluids/filters with period correct parts. Previous owner did new KYB shocks and drum brakes. It runs, shifts, stops, and drives just fine but I don’t take it on far trips, just putt around town in it. I would recommend trailering it just because of the age however we can take it down the road for a test drive if you’re a serious buyer with cash in hand.Included is all new brake & fuel lines and PS hoses/fittings from Shafer’s Customs out of Tampa FL made specifically for this car. I have new ball joints for it (upper and lower) and a Speedway motors electronic ignition upgrade that’ll go with it too that I haven’t got around to installing. There is a period correct slip on muffler for it, however it currently is just dumped out the back for all that big block noise. I installed six new interior matching Retro Belt seatbelts in the car over the summer. It has new lights/bulbs, glass fuses, and brake light bulbs installed as well. It does need a front driver turn signal bulb since it is seized in the housing, and I didn’t want to damage it for removal. Recently installed new Tiger Paw tires, not even 400~ miles on them. Fresh oil change as well.I recently took it to a restoration shop and the owners were shocked at how straight the body is, lack of rust and a solid frame, the ease of the doors opening/closing, all of the original windows felt is still intact, a really good example of a mostly untouched six-decade old car. It isn’t perfect by any means, but it is a solid car. I get more questions/comments from people going down memory lane with this car than anything else I’ve ever owned. You really don’t see many of them anymore and this is a really cool survivor…the working electronic breezeway window is awesome.Reason for selling is we are possibly moving soon, and I wouldn’t be able to take this with us and I’d like to see it go to someone who could button it up and really enjoy it. Price is cash only, no trades, however I am open to cash offers, but no low Ballers please. Thanks for looking! In 1951, the Society of Motion Picture Directors named the Packard Model 200 series cars “the most beautiful car of the year” and was cast in several motion pictures at that time. This car runs and drives beautifully. It could benefit from a brake service/adjustment and new shocks. Some limited minor cosmetic surface rust exists, which has been treated, but nothing structurally compromising. While not perfect, this car is in beautiful original condition, and will bring great enjoyment to any ‘50s era car enthusiast. odometer: 98969 Contact: no phone listed Copy and paste in your email: 30c581fb9e7333c79e5f2c32a622a3c0@sale.craigslist.org I have no personal interest or stake in the eventual sale of this 1951 Packard Model 200 Deluxe 4dr Touring Sedan.

  12. In the late 1980's, while working on a construction job in a Rochester, NY western suburb, a Yugo rolls into the lot, apparently not running. Out steps the prototypical young engineer: nervous, thin, pale, horn-rim glasses, white shirt, dark tie and slacks, apologetically asking if one of us could drive him onto his job at Kodak, and if it would be okay if his car was parked there until he could have someone get him some gas...he has forgotten to fill up the night before! I told him we'd take care of putting gas in it, he handed me a five-dollar bill, which he said was all he put in it. We drove it to the Kodak lot, handed the keys to the gate guard...had a great laugh that he was probably one of Kodak's lead engineers!
  13. Ed: At higher altitudes than you are accustomed to drink much more water than usual. The oxygen we need is extracted from the water rather than the thinner, high-altitude air. I have to make this adjustment annually going from 1,330 feet above sea level to 9,500 feet above sea level when visiting family in Colorado. Driving a Speed Six W.O. Bentley is a tough job, but someone has to do it...enjoy! Steve
  14. From Packard, A History Of The Motor Car And The Company, edited by Beverly Rae Kimes, page 298, detailing changes to the Seventh Series (1930): "Other changes included a half-melon shaped headlamp design and the omission of cowl ban and sidelights on brackets. The new parking lamps were fender-mounted, though they were an accessory on the Standard Eight where the parking lights were incorporated into the headlamps." Further, regarding the Eighth Series (1931), page 307: "And, of course, the new Packard line- designated 826-833-840-845- which the company began building in August. The hubcaps were larger, steering wheels had three spokes rather than four, fenders were a bit deeper, running boards thicker, the bumper clamps plain, no paneled." I'd opine from the details it was a 1931 Standard Eight 833 roadster.
  15. It's either a 1930 Standard Eight Model 733, Body Style 402 or 1931 Standard Eight Model 833, Body Style 462 roadster 2/4 passenger

  18. When I first saw a 1960 Meteor Montcalm during our 1962 family trip to the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto, I was amazed that Ford would allow what looked like a raked version of the Lincoln Continental "boxed-star" as a highlight feature of the side trim.
