  1. Although it was unlikely the 'Kenosha' Hudsons would handle as well as the Step-Downs, one benefit of opening the front wheel wells for the 1955-'57 Hudsons was widening the front track width relative to what the Nashes had to have. 1955-'57 Nash: 56.4" 1955-'57 Hudsons: 59.5" Overall height also affects the center of gravity and its effect on handling. 1954 Hudsons: 60.4" OAL, 6.1" minimum road clearance 1955 Hudsons: 62.3" OAL, 6.9" minimum road clearance
  2. " i give up...it's for sale." Go check it out in person, offer him $2000-$2500, take it home, sort it out, drive it in the good weather for a second car.
  3. The 1954 Packard Pacific hardtop is as close to a Caribbean hardtop as Packard built until the 1956 Caribbean hardtops. The Paint Scheme XG - Lower - Chariot Red with Upper- Black combined with Interior Color Code 327 Red Genuine Leather with black nylon cloth or Code 496 Red Genuine Leather with gray nylon cloth was a popular combination.
  4. For Sale: 1954 Packard Pacific 2 Door Hardtop - $28,500 - Coeur d'Alene, ID - Still Available, Price Reduced to $24,500: 11-10-2022: See New Link Below: RARE 1954 Packard Pacific 2 Door Hardtop - cars & trucks - by owner... (craigslist.org) Seller's Description: Super rare 1954 Packard Pacific 2 door hard top. Only 1189 Pacific's were built for the 1954 model year. 54 was the only year the Pacific was offered. What makes it even more unique is the engine. It has its original Thunderbolt straight eight. This engine displaced 359 ci, 212 hp and 330-foot pounds of torque. This power plant was only offered in the senior Packards and 1954 was the only year it was made. This car is a true survivor. It was pulled from dry storage where it sat for nearly 35 years. It has taken almost 3 years to get it back on the road. Thousands spent on new and rebuilt parts. I've gone through the entire fuel, coolant and brake systems. The car has one repaint that I'm aware of. Interior is in great original condition except for the carpet has been replaced. I have the original paperwork for the car and I'm the 3rd owner. The car was originally sold in Spokane and spent its whole life in Eastern Washington.New or rebuilt parts includeFuel system,Fuel tankFuel linesFuel pumpCarburetorIntake and exhaust manifold gasketsCoolant systemRadiatorWater pumpThermostatAll coolant hosesBrake systemAll shoesWheel cylindersSpring hardwareMaster cylinderPower boosterPowder coat wheelsNew white wall tiresInteriorCarpetMisc bulbsBrake and throttle bootsI know I'm missing a lot of info, so please feel free to contact me. 5. For Sale: 1968 Chrysler Imperial Crown 4dr Hardtop - Very Original - $14,500 - Portland, OR 1968 Chrysler Imperial Crown Sedan - Green on Green - Very Original... (craigslist.org) Seller's Description: 1968 Chrysler Imperial Crown Sedan Message me for a photo album of 130 pictures of the car including pictures of the underside on a lift. Sold new by Roy Burnett Motors in Portland, Oregon. This car was delivered December 15th in 1967. Original owner's booklet shows maintenance notes early on. Current mileage reads 102,440. It appears the car spent a good portion of its life in storage. For the last 26 years it has been in storage in Washington State until I purchased it along with another car. We ended up doing quite a bit of maintenance to revive it after getting it out of its storage building. March Maintenace: New White Wall Tires lube oil filter service new water pump, coolant flush rebuilt carburetor new brakes including master cylinder, all hoses, rear wheel cylinders converted to Pertronix electronic ignition system new ignition coil new spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor new fuel pump and filter new alternator and power steering belts new air filter new battery The car is mostly original, and the interior is very well preserved. The carpets do show some staining. The metal trim throughout the interior of the car does need some polishing as it shows its age and oxidation. The paint is mostly average but there are definitely some poor spots. The worst spot being the driver's side rear fender that got scraped and sightly dimpled at the end of the moldings. That rear fender chrome cap also received a little scraping at the same time. Lots of little touched up chips on the passenger side. The turn signal stalk needs to be held into position to keep the signals on. The instrument cluster gauges all function and light up, but the speedometer does take above 15-25 mph occasionally to kick in. The driver's side reverse light lens is also broken. Please request the photo album take a look at the photos so you can get a good idea of the car before purchasing as I made sure to photograph all the small flaws. The only flaw on the seats is a small split at a seam of the drivers bolster, but it could be re-stitched or left as is, it's sort of hard to notice. Now on to the good news. There is absolutely no rust underneath this car. The headliner, carpets (besides the small staining in the passenger footwell) and fabric seats are in amazing shape for their age. They are very well preserved. The dash is also original and has no cracks in it. The rear parcel tray looks new as well. The original rubber floor mats are included with the car as well but not photographed. It does fire up nicely when cold after two pumps of the accelerator pedal. It drives very well and is quite smooth. The steering and suspension feel great. It idles wonderfully after rebuilding the carb. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. You will have to work around my travel schedule as I am busy. Car is sold with an Affidavit in Lieu of Title/Release of Interest from Washington State Department of Motor Vehicles which acts as a title. Clean and clear. Contact: no phone listed. 6. I only had the displeasure to ride in one a few times, it was a miserable car to ride any distance in. Fortunately, rust cleared most of them away quickly.
  7. In addition to American isolationist views, the term 'dictator' hadn't acquired the negative connotation that it would shortly with the rise of Adolph Hitler and other fascists to national power overseas. The oceans were still viewed as moats to defend the country from such political movements. Auto company managements were reading the seemingly rising economic prosperity as an optimistic indicator that expansion was the correct course of action for greater future earnings and market penetration. Studebaker bought Pierce-Arrow and introduced both Erskine and the President to broaden their market coverage. The Graham brothers, flush with money from selling out to and departing from the Dodge Brothers operations, purchased Paige-Detroit Motor Car Company to organize Graham-Paige Motors Corporation. In Cleveland, Hupp Motor Company bought Chandler-Cleveland Motors Corporation to expand their production capabilities. Willys-Overland bought Streans-Knight for their luxury make and backed Falcon-Knight as a companion make to augment their Knight-engine offerings. Chrysler bought Dodge Brothers and introduced Plymouth and DeSoto to create his version of the "Sloan Ladder" of a nameplate/price spread to challenge General Motors directly. None foresaw the suddenly challenging economic situation that would soon beset the nation and ultimately diminish and crush the smaller automakers.
  8. I'll guess it was a 1928-'29 Graham-Paige 610, 612 or 614.

  10. Production automakers painted the wood spokes, in Studebaker's case to match the body color. Varnished natural wood, while looking nice, would require yearly re-varnishing to seal the wood from water damage. Paint was much more durable, required less maintenance. Painted to match the light brown/tan with black wall tires would be more appropriate. The torquey 242 ci six-cylinder engine and four-wheel brakes would make this Studebaker a decent driver.
  11. By the 1964 models, Studebaker had evolved the former Lark into a nicely styled package, too bad by then the majority of the public and lenders had written off Studebaker as a viable automaker
  12. The Standard Catalog of American Cars, 1805-1942, Edited by Kimes and Clark states 5,634 1931 Chevrolet Independence Six Series AE 2dr Landau Phaetons were built. Whereas the 4dr phaeton of which the produced only 852 were built was priced $510, the Landau Phaeton was $650! The latter is a quarter-window convertible victoria which afforded year-round usability, the old-fashion open 4dr phaeton only for the hearty and frugal...unless it was a dual cowl sport phaeton which still stylish!
  13. It's the Toronado Standard Body Style No. 66-9487 by the upholstery pattern, crank-windows and plainer interior appointments. Note the wheels are argent silver painted with the chromed trim rings and hubcaps, Deluxes have the wheels chromed where they're painted on the Standard.
  14. What a doll-up job that poor Hudson is! Looks like an Earl Schieb $39.95 deluxe paint job with a chrome-tube kitchen chairs mottled blue vinyl upholstery by Speedy's boat trim shop. To see how well the 'restoration' was done, always check the front underside edge of the hood and what color is on the cowl. In that 1930's-1950's era, the complete body was painted the exterior color, the flat-black cowls were a GM/Fisher method that began in the 1960's. Surprisingly, the underside appears quite solid other than surface rust. It would have been a good candidate for a proper restoration.

  17. J. R. Gehman's Maxwell 'Auto Delivery' deserves a bit of improved look:
  18. While we're on the subject of aftermarket accessories, these blue Plexiglas sun visors would be a neat item to add to a blue Packard such as this one, with an aftermarket 'pelican' hood ornament with light-up blue plastic wings!
  19. Finally, an answer to what company produced those unique blue Plexiglas sun visors! Here is a photo of a 1948-'49 Packard equipped with one that was for sale in New Jersey, if I recall correctly. If I had a blue Packard, I'd want one of those to accessorize it. I'd also mount an aftermarket 'pelican' hood ornament with those light-up blue plastic wings! And you thought I had good taste, didn't you?
