  1. I had my 29 DODGE BROS engine rebuild. Most important is verify you have a rebuildable engine. Have your block inspected and mag-fluxed before further expenses.
  2. What is the range of DA6 engine numbers? Also, are there part numbers and casting dates on the engine block? If so where are they located?
  3. Looking at my “Master Parts” I noticed different crankshaft listing. The Stockton or S frame numbers after S112xxx has a different crankshaft listing. Both of my frame numbers are after S112xxx.
  4. Per Dodge Brothers “Confidential Bulletin No. F-3” dated Feb. 15 1930 a new improved DA6 truck engine will be introduced. Memo stated this engine is best suited for the 3/4-ton, 1-ton, and 1 1/2-ton Trucks. It is designated as the new “Truck Motor” produced on a new separate production line. Any idea what were the improvements? I am not aware of any differences in displacement and horsepower of the DA-6. Could be possible that there is improvement in size of the main bearings. Any body have a DA-6 truck engine with a fuel pump. If so could you give a “H-xxx” motor number? I found there is a fuel pump noted in the “master Parts” for the DA-124 and U-124. It might be that the announcement to the dealers was a marketing smoke screen.
  5. I am not sure of the differences of the passenger and truck DA6 engines. I acquired a DA6 engine that was out of a 1929 DB Victory passenger car. The engine wasn’t locked up and I was able to get running. It was a tired engine and had heavy oil flow out of the rear bearing. I then installed the passenger engine in my 29 Dodge Bros ¾ ton truck. I was able to get my truck on the road until my truck engine was rebuilt. Here are the external differences of the passenger car engine: 1) Replaced 2 blade fan with a 4 blade fan 2) Replaced crank front pulley 3) Replaced water pump pulley 4) Replaced manifold since exhaust exits near rear of engine 5) Replaced upper water inlet 6) Replaced distributor lock base. 7) Replaced throttle and spark linkage There were no differences between the truck and passenger DA6 block engine assembles observed. The only noticeably difference was the location of the motor number. It is on front of the engine not rear like the passenger car.
  6. Engine rebuilds are very expense especially if you have a professional rebuilder. It could cost between $6000 and $8000 to have it done assuming you have a good block to begin with.
  7. Does your trans have seals? My 29 dodge doesn’t and I use 600wt oil. Light weight oil will seep thru bearings.
  8. Not sure what the rebuilder did but it may be good idea apply a hi-tac adhesive to assure it does not move when placing the oil pan.
  9. My rebuilder took this picture of my DA6 before he placed the oil pan and I have not had any oil leaks.
  10. The felt seal does not go there. It in the groove on the rear main seal.
  11. I salvaged my copper lines and cleaned them up. I believe the nickel copper lines are good replacement. Save all the fittings . They are specific to the brake system. The flare end fittings can be reused if not split from over tightening. when building a new brake system it is best to use Dot4 or 5. All Dot3 residual most be removed first. Good to hear of your progress.
  12. This is a picture of my rebuild. Note the felt seal location. Your gasket placement looks ok. Not sure of torque of pan bolts. Should be minimal and based on thread diameter. Should retighten after engine runs and warms up. I didn’t place my oil pan and don’t know if you need additional sealer.
  13. Cars may be different but my 29 Dodge truck doesn’t have any seals. It does not need any since the trans uses heavy 600 wt gear oil.
  14. Great discussion. Before there were video games and computers you found other ways to entertain yourself. At the age of 15, I chose to draw pictures of cars. When I found out about the Fisher Body Guild I entered my car design in the 1958 Junior Guild competition. I completed a design of my car and then made a clay model prototype. I then craved a solid wood model out of redwood. Living in No California there was plenty of clay and kiln dried redwood available. I had little assistance and was able to submit my model to the 1958 competition. Time constraints made it hard to add head lights, taillights and trim. Note the hub caps were the tops of the spray paint canisters. This is a true survivor indeed and survived a rough journey including an attack of a poodle that chewed on it. I did get a Honorable Mention and the program guild. Thanks for reference to book about the Guild competition. I will get a copy.
  15. My application is on a 29 Dodge Bros truck and that is where it was mounted when I got truck. Passenger cars may be different. Don’t know about them. I just fired up my truck and it runs good.
  16. I was able to find a replacement filter with the internal shut off valve at Napa. It was made in India and of very poor quality. I could not get it to seal when i tighten the bowl. The nut was made of pot metal would strip out if i used pliers. I returned it and found a reproduction AC at our local Chevy restoration parts dealer and it is an in line gas filter for $10 less. The bowl tighten nut is steel also. The shut off ball valve was found at Ace Hardware. Thanks for all your comments
  17. I recommend this publication bought thru the Dodge Brothers web site. You will need a reducer fitting. Take tank to local Ace Hardware. my fuel out of the vacuum tank is 1/8 NPT.
  18. The bowl body is pot metal and was damaged. I plan to replace it. Note the shut off valve. It does seat closet to the tank and should shut down flow from the tank. Would a positive in line shut off valve between the gas tank and the vacuum tank stop the vacuum tank from draining?
  19. This tank used on my 29 DB truck. Larger capacity required for this 6 cylinder engine. 216AF
  20. I am using the Steward carb and Steward vacuum tank on my original 29 DA6. Both are rebuilt and I have had no problems other than my vacuum tank drains to empty over a period of about 2 weeks. i thought i had it fixed when I placed a shutoff valve below the vacuum tank but after the truck sat for 1 month it drained dry again. i consider the rebuilder of the carb as a good job. Sorry for pics sideways.
  21. This pic may help. It is from the “Master Parts” book. Note item 20. The adjustment cam.
  22. Have you made any post for your Graham Bros truck? What model is it?
  23. Check undercarriage for rust. I saw a 60 corvette that needed a frame replacement. Body mounts brackets needed replacement also. That a great find.
