  1. From a 40+ year owner of a 1933 Chevrolet Master 5 Window Coupe. Not sure the 1932 Chevrolet is exactly the same, but the VIN for a 1933 is on a 1 X 1.5 inch (approx.) plate mounted on the right side of the front seat floor boards just inside the right door. This plate only has the VIN and the number may difficult to see without good lighting. The plate under the hood has items like the body, paint, and trim numbers, not the VIN. Oracle, Not sure who created the document your 1932 Chevrolet link goes to, but 1932 Chevrolets were never referred to as Eagles as far as I know, that was a 1933 only "Official" designation. The 1932 Chevrolet was referred to as the "Confederate". Also, the Series CA passenger vehicle designation was specifically for 1933 Master passenger cars, the 1932 was BA series cars. R.I.P. SAAB

I have owned 4 Saabs and loved them all. They were all Saab designed 99 and 900 models, not the GM junk. First was a 1975 model 99 that I bought new, followed by a 1986 900 Turbo then another 1986 900 Turbo and finally a 1992 900 Turbo. All were 2 door hatchbacks. The 1975 I drove for 250,000 miles before hitting a 180 pound deer head-on at 75 mph. Replaced the hood and grill from an older junked car that was hit in the back and my son drove it another 50,000+ before we towed it to a junk yard. The first 1986 I drove 230,000 miles and then my daughter drove it another 40,000+ miles before falling asleep at the wheel, hit a telephone pole going 55 mph and rolled it over on the roof. It took the right front half of the car off back to the firewall. She only had a minor bruise on her right knee. That one then went to the junk yard. Replaced it with another 1986 for $1,000 less then the insurance company gave us for the wrecked car. It had 150,000 miles when we got it and she drove that one another 140,000+ and traded it in with a total of 290,000+ miles. I just sold the 1992 last year with 275,000+ miles and I still see it driving around once in a while. The only major work I ever had to do was replace the clutch plate on the 1975 and 2 or 3 CV joints on some of them. The rest was brake pads and rotors. With the engine in backwards you could take to hood off with 2 bolts and replace the clutch while sitting on a chair in front of the car. Vila 1933 Chevrolet 1962 Triumph TR4 1984 BMW 633 CSi
  3. Jim Sound like it is time for you Texan's to contact your state representatives and tell them of your dissatisfaction with this decision by the DMV and if they don't get there you know what in gear then maybe it is time to vote them out of office. Hey I PA I plan to politic to vote them all out of office anyways. Vila 1933 Chevrolet 1962 Triumph TR4 1984 BMW 633 CSi
  4. Just a comment Dave. While I was doing research on Pennsylvania's House Bill 1203, which would allow the use of Year of Manufacture (YOM) license plates, I checked up on what the other 50 states were allowing. Approximately 38 of the states allow YOM plates, but some of the states had a clause that stated you could not repaint / restore the plate and it had to be in original condition. If you have a pre-war car it may be difficult to fine a perfect plates if you live in one of those states. 5. I lived near Camp Hill / Mechanicsburg, PA and graduated from high school in 1968. The fastest car in the parking lot was a 1959 AC Bristol owned by one of the students. Vila 1933 Chevrolet 1962 Triumph TR4 1984 BMW 633 CSi
  6. Franklinman, I have to disagree with you on your statement "it really doesn't amount to a whole lot of votes for an individual legislator". When these state positions are sometime determined by as few as 100 vote, even 50 antique car enthusiasts can make a difference. 50 votes taken from one person and added to the others can easily erase that 100 votes. It doesn't really change my vote anyways, since a few years ago I change my voting habits to always vote against everyone on the ballet that is currently in office. The professional politicians represent themselves, not the people that elect them. Time to go to my anger management class. Vila 1933 Chevrolet 1962 Triumph TR4 1984 BMW 633 CSi
  7. Sounds like it is time to email our state Senators to request their support of this bill. Don't forget to include the fact that PennDOT will save money by passing this bill, since it will be the car owners responsibility to supply the Year of Manufacture license plate and PennDOT will not need to supply an Antique/Historic plate for the same registration fee. 10. Yes last week HB 1203 made it through the PA Senate Transportation committee. If anyone finds out when it is supposed to be brought up for a vote in the full Senate would you let us know. A day or so prior to the senate vote we need to do an email blitz of "ALL" our senators again to get it through the full senate. Vila 1933 Chevrolet 1962 Triumph TR4 1984 BMW 633 CSi

  12. Yes it passed the PA House of Representatives several weeks ago, but then it had to go the the PA Senate and is currently in the Senate Transportation Committee for debate before it goes to the full senate for a vote and none of this has occurred to date. Senator Rafferty's letter referenced in my previous posting was dated 5 October 2011. Vila 1933 Chevrolet 1962 Triumph TR4 1984 BMW 633 CSi
  13. I just received a letter from Senator John Rafferty, Jr today in response to my email on HB 1203 and contrary to one comment above the bill is alive and well. From the letter: "The legislation is not dead. No action was taken on the legislation in September due to several hearings that I (Senator Rafferty) conducted on the Governor's Transportation Report. This legislation may be considered at an October Committee meeting." That said, get your pen and/or email working and send messages to Senator Rafferty or any other Senators on the Transportation Committee to request their support of this bill. In addition to other comments you may make in your letter/email I would mention that this will save PennDOT money since they will get the same registration fee and not be required to supply a license plate. 14. I bought the "40 Weather Proof Half Sheet Vinyl..." found at the link in my previous posting. The artwork looked perfect on my home computer and I then sent it to work to print on a laser printer. The results were a perfect mat finished label that I then trimmed off with a paper cutter. One issue, don't run more than two vinyl sheets through the copy machine at a time as it will put a image on the next few paper copies you print. I printed 3 sheets and had to run 10 sheets of paper though the machine to clear the image which was a 3 x 5" entirely black graphic with white writing. I am now making a reproduction of the original battery label. Vila 1933 Chevrolet 1962 Triumph TR4 1984 BMW 633 CSi
  15. franklinman: You never will hear anything from this #%$^, I sent a message for his support of this bill back when it when to the senate transportation committee and never got a response. Time for the voters in the PA 44th senate district to show the power of the ballot. Visit my website at: Bob's Vintage Cars Vila 1933 Chevrolet 1962 Triumph TR4 1984 BMW 633 CSi
  16. West: The Z3 work was all done at the Sun Motor Cars body shop for the Sun motors Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Audi dealerships on the Carlisle Pike, Mechanicsburg, PA. I literally can not find one place on the car where you can tell it was ever in an accident, except the VIN number tag on the replacement door is a different # then the rest of the car. Novaman: Thanks for the info on the HPOF poll. I agree that after I answered the questions the best I could that it still did not show my true opinion, but it was a good start. 17. 31_ packard Any experience with the "Laser Jet printable white vinyl labels" rather than the paper ones? The original label was vinyl and since the entire 3" x 5" ish label is black with only white letters I was thinking of going with the vinyl labels. I found them at: SALE on Vinyl Labels, Waterproof Labels & Durable Labels Visit my website at: Bob's Vintage Cars Vila 1933 Chevrolet 1962 Triumph TR4 1984 BMW 633 CSi
  18. West I won't have my HPOF 1933 Chevrolet at Hershey this year as in 2009 and 2010, but if you stop by the Black 1984 BMW 633 CSi in class 27P I can give you my 2 cents worth. Like I said very early in this thread, I would prefer HPOF in class. Interestingly no one responding to this thread has mentioned this, but back around 9 months ago I got either a post card or email from an someone taking a poll on showing HPOFs in class. I responded, but never heard anything on the results. Visit my website at: http://mysite.verizon.net/vze114b79/ Vila 1933 Chevrolet 1962 Triumph TR4 1984 BMW 633 CSi
  19. Yes my 33 masters also have the small notch in the front inner edge of the fenders. From what I understand, just about everything on a 33 Standard is different from a 33 master. Vila
  20. They look like the fenders on my 1933 Chevrolet Master. They could also be Standard model fenders that look the same at a glance, but are slightly different. My fenders even have the moon shaped holes along the top inner edge. Maybe a 1934 Master or Standard owner could tell you if they are a possibility also. Definitely not 1932 and earlier as those do not have the small skirt portion at the back side of the wheel opening. 22. Pennsylvania: Like Ohio, A vehicle must be at least 25 years old to qualify for antique plates. In addition, the vehicle must only be used for antique exhibitions, parades, and related activities, not for routine transportation. Of course, the vehicle must be in sound enough condition to drive safely. To qualify for the Classic registration the vehicle must be 20 years old. Title fee $22.50 for either Antique or Classic registration One time permanent registration fee of $75 for life of Antique or Classic registration. No annual inspection with Antique/Historic plates. Annual safety inspection, but no emissions inspection of Classic Plates. Vila 1933 Chevrolet 1962 Triumph TR4 1984 BMW 633 CSi
  23. I never received my 2010 HPOF Brass Tag for plaque for Hershey last year so I thougth I would email the awards person listed on the AACA Contact Us list to get one. I when on the website and got his email address and sent a note. Everything was fine so far. A day or so later I got an email back saying it was not deliverable. Sounds like their inbox is full. Every day for the next week or so I got the not deliverable email. In the mean time I sent a duplicate email to the AACA General address and started getting another not deliverable message so now I was getting two of these emails per day. Next I sent the AACA Director an email saying that I believe they have an issue with the email system, but guess what. Yes I then started getting an email from the director stating his email was not deliverable. If someone from the AACA headquarters reads this could you let me and anyone else trying to email you what the issue is. Thanks Vila 1933 Chevrolet 1962 Triumph TR4 1984 BMW 633 CSi
  24. The only thing politicians are interest in is being re-elected and before this bill came up for a vote in the House I sent my representative an email telling her I would be voting for her opponent in the next election if she didn't vote for it. Don't know if my email made a difference, but in her replied she said she was going to vote for it. That said, send your senator an email or letter stating your plan is to vote them out of office the next time they are up for re-election if they don't get their @$$ in gear to bring this up for a vote and pass the bill. I already did. Didn't you watch the news last night (16 August 2011), Good Guys finish last. Enought on politics. As far as keeping a "Historic/Antique" plate in addition to the YOM plate, I don't mind. I can still transfer my Purple plate to a vehicle like my 1984 BMW that is antique but is newer than the last YOM allowed (which I believe might be 1975 in the bill), then hide that ugly newer style White with Yellow and Blue "Historic/Antique plate in the car I am displaying my YOM plate on.
