  1. Very much so... There are very few who I stop to listen to. The thing about the sports media and the reporters is all the interviews between themselves As if they are the news and not the athletes they are talking about. The 24 hr news cycle is the true bane of society.
  2. Yikes...maybe thats where I thought of it. Sorry about that, I guess I was thinking of something else when I read your post. What diameter/tensile strength of rod did you use? Man if it bends bad that would scare the bleep out of me! After reconsideration, I am "faint of heart" as you put it....... I learn safe work practises at work, certainly this would never even be considered there so why am I now considering just because I'm at home? I guess it took me posting the question to make me realize that fact. I will be buying the proper tool.... Thanks for all your input and thanks Bob for the suggestion, I just don't think I could stomach seeing that rod bend the way you described
  3. Speaking of things going well together...there is something conspicuously missing from your list of cars in your signature I think you have some old half roofed '54 if I recall
  4. After obsessing about this and starring at it I may now have an idea that doesn't involve me gathering dead weight....friends or otherwise I need to know however, if the top shock mount can stand my idea.... I could remove the shock then insert a threaded rod, as big as can fit diameter wise, all the way through past the bottom a arm. Use some heavy plate steal at the bottom and top. Then all I need to do is thread down a nut on some washers at the top until its compressed enough for me to remove the top a-arm. Then slowly thread it all out until the spring has no more extension. My only question is...will the top shock mount be damaged from this? Its heavy gauge...as is everything on this car but is it heavy enough? Spring.pdf Shock mount.pdf
  5. ....use some Buick springs? Yes I was joking.......
  6. Funny yes...but also clever. They make tools for a reason, sometimes one just needs to be reminded of that fact......as tempting as the beam on the garage door idea would be. Its neat to see all the different approaches we all take to problems..which is why I asked in the first place. I just wanted to make sure I was not missing some easy and safe idea. That procedure Rooster spoke of seems elegant and safe...just not without having the engine in-place.
  7. Thanks but that only works when the whole engine/transmission is in place....my top stop bumper is completely compressed while the car sits on the tires. On another note..I find it neat that we are both from Perth and both have the beautiful '54 76R.
  8. I messed around once with my ATV rear springs and for a moment I saw my future...didn't like it. I guess I just got freaked out so I went down and had the other done by a mechanic friend. I hate to borrow tools in general..especially from a pro making a living off them so I think I will just buy a set...more Buick Bucks gone to tools and not directly to the Buick. Thanks..I guess I just needed to hear what I have to do.
  9. Heheheh...I can find one just can't get the capital approval from my shop manager Maybe I can show her the dangers of failed attempts while not using a good compressor..there should be some on YouTube. I guess I'll buy one...I could wait until the motor is in but everything is so nice and exposed now. Great chance to complete a proper cleanup.
  10. I need to change out the front springs on my 54 Roadmaster, I have the entire front clip off and engine removed. So this seems simple enough until I read the procedure in the manual...the engine has to be in for it to provide the weight to compress the spring. Any tricks other than getting spring clamps?
  11. Thanks...I think I will "snipe" it right at the end I doubt there is someone out there who would/could buy this car that doesn't know it is up for sale...looks like all this is for is to try and establish the level (money) of interest. For all we know the reserve is at 2,000,000
  12. If add revenues are based on the delivered count then for sure they would drop...also I'm sure there are volume incentives as it pertains to pricing for the production of the magazine itself. I think the main concern for going digital is the water downed effect of membership dues and the inevitable proliferation of copies. I don't see any buisness model that includes a "digital only" choice working....that would offer a discounted membership and that is obviously a backwards move. The one option that may work is one that offers a digital option for an additional fee to only those who already have a full membership. This will only work however, if it can be secured from open "sharing". This should be able to increase revenues while adding an extra service. This will also not mess with the folks who just want their Bugle in the mail and no extra fees. The best way to "secure" the digital version is to have a credential based access to a website with the bugle(s) there for viewing. Delivering PDF copies via email is just not a good idea...you can imagine all the uploaded copies that will ensue. People tend to not give out their credentials for site access so that, for the most part, takes care of the security. I think this could be a way to generate additional funds while enhancing the value of a membership. Personally I would throw in $10 more to have this...how many members would it take to join to pay to administer it and break even? There was a price breakdown I think in the first thread about this a year ago but I can't find it. I think the conversation needs to move to financial feasibility, let's see if this concept has merit on those grounds first.
  13. Nice...I forgot about my aircraft! Add 6 more to my list
  14. At first thought I was thinking I would be very low compared to most of you guys but then I got thinking.... My Car = 6 Wife = 4 Brother In-law's abandoned (so now mine) but running car = 4 My Buick Roadmaster = 8 My company truck = 8 Two Ski-Do's = 4 Polaris ATV = 1 Lawn Tractor = 1 Lawn Mower = 1 Trimmer = 1 Power washer = 1 Generator = 1 Garden tiller = 1 All told 41....would never had guessed that.
  15. A Quarter for a Beer...????????? Hmmm.........ah never mind
  16. As a computer junkie I like most things digital but I would never want to give up my hard copy Bugle. If any move would threaten the hard copy then I'm not for it but if it can be done side by side then I say great....and I would pay more for that. After all a membership is about the cost of a tank of gas, well at least up here anyways. So I am ok with a little more, if a little more is what I get.....
  17. Remember all those 5.0 mustangs with the single exhaust pipes...?
  18. Nice to see all this attention to my favourite Buick year!!! The Landau was the pinnacle of the Buick's that year...maybe even the decade. To know that it will be on display at the annual meet is great to hear. Now that MrEarl is involved I can't wait to see what is in store. Maybe this is a start...a Chauffeur hat
  19. Let me guess...exorbitant taxes. ooops...sorry I shouldn't get political, just couldn't help myself on that one.
  20. Maybe he is a new member and was not aware that the Bugle is a publication that ships the start of the month listed. I know that I was a little concerned when it took 8 weeks for my first Bugle, I just joined at time of publication and missed the first one then it normally takes 4 weeks to recieve one as I live in Canada. That being said they come about 30 days apart now, no matter what month it is...
  21. I will be sure to update this thread regardless of what I find in the tank.... It does look to be the corrosive nature of the fuel though..
  22. Not that anything I say will bring out he Wildcat but I will say this... Those two cars at Ames would mean a lock for my attendance for sure!
  23. Best numbers out of the whole group! Not surprised...great lineup!
  24. I just got my March.......this week. It did have to get over the Great Canuckistan Wall that separates us from the rest of the world The way I look at it they come every month so I treat my March issue as the early April issue.
