1930 Peerless Model A Standard Eight 5P Sedan Hayes Body
One of 7 known to exist as per the "Peerless Registry" Straight Eight Continental engine 247cu.in 3 speed transmission, dual side mounts, trunk rack, clock in rearview mirror, original interior, correct original car. Car was in extended storage, in the past year gas tank replaced, original mechanical fuel pump purchased, repaired leaky oil pan and water jacket side plate. Tuned with new points, rotor etc, running and driving well. Understand this is a straight eight engine, a real going machine, not a Model A Ford or the like. Car has some rust, some dry rot and needs some TLC, but well worth the time or use as is and be special. Have tools, jack and other accessories. Car has Minnesota Collector plates and a clear title. Located in East Bethel, Mn. The car is a very rare example and is top of the line from 1930. It rivals Packard, Pierce Arrow, Lincoln and Cadillac of the day. I do not have the time to continue with the project and am open to an offer. You will not really see another anywhere!!!
Please call to make an appointment as it is currently in storage. Ed 602-421-5663

Good observation, TheMoneyPit. The correct, very large, headlights that came on this Standard Eight Peerless were replaced by some small sealed-beams decades ago. An owners manual or looking at one of the other 6 examples would tell you which is correct. The A(Standard 8) did have a different size than the B(Master 8) and C(Custom 8) units. Current owner found the car in a 3rd-floor parking garage of the Blackhawk Collection. The only other known Model ``A´´ Peerlesses are in WA, BC, NY, MO, ME and Denmark. There may be a coupe in CA.

The copy should read:  Where else can you find a Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky-designed straight-eight diamond-in-the-rough for less than the price of a new Mercedes?

Below is another Standard Eight that went to Washington, which  Brando Pistorius did a partial restoration of. Photo by Pistorius Collectible Autos, Odessa, Florida.

George, thanks for listing this Peerless Eight. I would never have seen it in Craigslist.

Steve, what I meant about low cost compared to a German import was that the prices asked on Sakhnoffsky-designed Isotta-Fraschini, Packard, Rolls-Royce, and Minerva cars tend to be stratospheric. He did some more prosaic product design, like streamlined LaBatt´s beer trucks, the 1929 American Austin, and a Gruen watch I have -- but he is noted for his advances in the  streamline and art deco movements for high-end motorcars.

The salesman´s guide said the Standard Eight was intended for customers who might otherwise buy one of these:

  1. Hupmobile 8
  2. Studebaker 8
  3. Marmon Mod. 69
  4. Nash 8 (Mod. 79)

Here´s another picture of a 1930 Peerless Standard 8. Photo by Doug 30 peerless from his January post on the Peerless Forum:
