Pedro's on the way home!

Yes guys, by now Pedro/P J Heizmann is getting ready to head back to more familiar surroundings, good Yankee food , and a home with a bottle of shampoo bigger than a thimble. My wife, Gloria, and I did our best to fill his tummy with good southern food, couldn't get him to try those "chitlins" though. Saturday Mike, my son, and I showed him all around town after the All Ford Show(mostly Mustangs). He saw more statues than a "wax" museum, felt our best? highways in a straight axle '32 Ford coupe, and kept picking on me about stopping for those stupid red lights. We finally decided that I would wait for 2 full cycles of red, green, yellow to make up for the ones I didn't stop for. I showed Pedro the "historic district" of Old Richmond, but I'm sorry to admit I couldn't find the Capital of the Confederacy to show him. Hey , it was hard to even see the street signs in a channeled coupe with 3 people, 2 lawn chairs and 2 coolers inside. I'll post a few historic pictures to prove to everyone that yes, Pedro did venture south to the former "Heart of the Confederacy". We all had a great time. Ya'll come on down, we got plenty more chitlins leftover. Wayne

You know you're a true southerner when you tell folks you use to live up north and they ask where and you say "Virginia".

For the record I have lived in "The South" my entire life and have yet to have chitlins (by choice mind you), but please pass the country ham and black eyed peas my way

Rich

PS: I was born in Tennessee, have lived in Georgia, Virginia and Florida as well. Relatively speaking Virginia has been 'Up North' most of my life :P

I am glad to see I am not the only one who believes Virgina is up North.

Now I know that you all have chitlins and ham hocks and greens up there too, but Peter, if you want to try some good downhome southern cooking you are going to have to go further south from the Mason Dixon line.

Where's Pedro? Oh, he's at the left in this picture above. I guess he was interested in cars. The lady in the background was the owner of the Black Mustang. She was feeding this line about her car all day trying to Unloa..uh sell her '94 Vert. Speaking of lines, hers were pretty good too. Nice and curvy. Wayne

Ok, one more! My son Mike had a great time in Richmond checking out the "sights". He and I chased this crew around until we got the needed souvenir picture. Took me 30 minutes to get my tongue back in. Wayne

Ok fellows, We may be a little North compared to the deep south, But you and we didn't complain when most of the Southern Battles were fought on our lands. I really thought we might have another go of it with the Alabama Court House situation, but I guess calmer minds prevailed. Still waiting for Pedro to get home. I'm sure he'll have something to say about our southern cooking. Wayne

Howdy, folks...arrived home 3 hours ago from Richmond.

Here's the scoop: My TR6 was invited to be placed in an exhibit of every Triumph made, as best as they could assemble. The Central Virginia British Car Club held the deal on Brown's Island in historic Richmond.

Had a nice time at the show, met a lot of people (that's where the fun is). However, the show was dwarfed by the great time I had with Wayne, Gloria, and, Mike.

--Only gawked at street rods, probably hundreds over the years. Always wanted to ride in one. Thanks, Wayne...our cruising around Richmond was better than the show. (after driving a TR6 it was impressive, to say the least, at the torque of the '32. Brought back a lot of memories.)

--Always wanted to meet Gloria and Mike: Thanks, again, Wayne...great time at dinner and a lot of fun with Mike.

--Now, as for the picture of me (yellow shirt) that Wayne posted. This angle isn't fair, Wayne. You forgot to mention you were on the left, out of sight, and, I appreciated the artwork of that lady trying to unload the '64 Mustang as much as you and Mike! (Boy, was she a talker, er...looker)

--As for the red traffic lights...I was willing to pay any tickets. Heck, I'm the one who told you to stop twice at the next one to make up for any missed one's I caused. (Remember, Mike is my witness!!)

--Seriously, had a great time with the Burgess'. Amazing how you meet really nice people via this forum and have a lot of fun. Howard, Amphicar, and, Randall had the same good time recently.

Bill Stoneberg: You would have enjoyed the British show. This is only the 2nd one I ever attended and it was nice to see some really rare ones...'54 Swallow-Doretti, '47 Triumph 1800 Roadster, very nice '72 Jensen Interceptor. As for true Texas cuisine, I miss it...last I enjoyed it was in '67 during my Ft. Hood days.

Anyhoot, that's it folks,

Regards, Peter J.

Peter, You are right I would have enjoyed it more then the Truck show I went to this past weekend. Sounds like you had a good time. But if you ever want some good Texas food, come on down. I am talking Tex-Mex, Chicken Fried Steak, Ocra etc. etc.

Wayne and all else on the East Coast... Be Careful and I pray to God you will all be safe. This one looks bad. Do't take chances and if they tell you to leave get the heck out of there. Possessions are not worth getting hurt over.

Hi, Bill...

If I recall, there was a saying in Texas to the effect: "If you have been to Texas, you will return" (?) It'll happen, Bill.

Good for you, Randall...

Personally, I plan to go back some day. Spent 13 months at Ft. Hood in 1968-69. Met some of the finest people in that time period. Shipped out for Vietnam in mid-69. I'll be back. Great area if you know how to appreciate what it offers.

Well it does not mean that the people or the state is bad, just my experiences there. Actually I found Austin to be a really nice town, and the universities some of the best in the country.

Houston, where I spent 6 years, was a good place just too blamed hot for me. Dallas was the real thorn ... but regardless I found my home in Colorado which is what makes this diverse country so great, there is a place for everyone!

Pete, do you ever make it up to Colorado or to the Denver area? If so, I would love to get together...maybe John, Dan and Howard too! That would be a grand time!

Its funny,

Some people love it down here and some people love to leave it. I can't imagine living anyplace else. I have before and keep coming home to Texas.

At the moment I live in the suburbs that have grown up around me but I am looking to move further out.

Houses are affordable, gas is reasonably cheap, cars dont rust and there is something to keep you as busy as you want.

I can go out to dinner and have my choice of cuisines without having to go too far. Summer lasts for 8 months while winter lasts for 1. I can drive my Buicks pretty much year round.

Whats there not to like about living here ?

Peter, anytime you want to come back down and visit you are welcome. We can have a good time and show you the sites. I am only a couple of hours from Ft. Hood.

Randall, I can appreciate your views. Must agree that Austin and the Universities are great. Spent many weekends in Austin, not to mention Dallas.

Bill...may take you up on the invite. For 30+ years, I have been telling Sharon that a return to Texas, before I croke, is a must. Cannot say that for many places, despite their lure.

Regards, Peter J.
