WTB 24 6 Water Inlet to the Block

Recommended Posts

Although I see some corrosion that should be chipped off with a dental pick or the end of a small screwdriver, that piece looks totally acceptible to me.  Perhaps a slightly longer piece of new radiator hose and a good stainless steel period clamp from Bob's, or a worm clamp.  Keep the antifreeze in good condition and I would not think twice about using that part.  Just put the clamp where the metal is solid.

I did not see the snapped outer edge of the flange.  Even that is not the end of the world as a larger washer could be used, and the outside of the flange serves no sealing purpose.

All that said, I would still look for a replacement or ask a few cast iron welding specialists if this part is beyond repair.

An odd part number.  165403 is early 24-6 up to engine 1242099.

Part 180432 is 24-6 after engine 1242099 and 1925 Master.

Part 190305 is 1926 Master to engine 1539339

Part 207755 is 1926 Master after 1539339 thru 1928

Maybe someone has one of these Master cylinder water inlet parts in a box somewhere that they could part with?     Hugh

Goodness, had no idea there was a mid-year change.  Cooling issues in those days, Hugh?

And is there any kind of interchange from later to earlier?

It can be repaired by brazing.   Both mounting ears on mine have been brazed back together.

This a small part that should be fairly easy to heat up and braze.   A much larger part that has also been braze repaired is the fan tower on the timing cover casting.  this  must have been done by an experienced welder back in the day.  Braze weld is visible at right edge of the photo.

The issue is that the 1924 6 water pump is a different design than the 1925. The outlet is at a different attitude to match the block inlet. Most of them do not have more than 1/2" spacing between them.
