1972 Checker station wagon, not mine.

Recommended Posts

I like to see Checkers.  The "civilian" versions

had very limited production, but there is a club

to support the owners.  Several years ago, their

club's national meet was held in Gettysburg, Pa.

Most of the cars at that meet were of driver (#3

condition) quality, not perfect restorations.

Checker is the "forgotten" independent make

that lasted up until 1982.

I used to drive a couple of Checkers for my delivery job in the 70’s.  Ours were V-8’s though and you could load them up with several hundred pounds of stuff and they just went on their merry way. And ran forever with few mechanical problems. The worst part was the fact that the drivers seat didn’t go very far back so you tended to drive with your leg crossed in front of you and your right leg bent in half.  I can’t remember when I last saw a wagon.
