1973 MGB Fair Price?

Recommended Posts

Read most of this thread this morning.  1st, I’m an MGA fan but have never owned one.  I’m not sure about the B but I decided to look on Facebook marketplace and found literally dozens of them for sale from projects to drivers - none for more than $6,500.

Yet the MGA search (granted it’s geographically limited to 250 miles from central Iowa) yielded 3-4. One nice project for I think $8500 asking and other finished cars for up to $35,000.

I think a good MGA is more desirable than a T series car nowadays and much more desirable than a B.  Neat cars,  $30 - 35 k should buy a very good example.

If "Young Classic Car Guy" has the budget of

a typical 18-22 year old (he didn't mention his age),

those $8000 MG's might suit him.  I don't think a

$30,000 car is what he's seeking--and it's not what

most antique-car buyers are seeking.

Although, in the AACA, someone of 40-49 might be

thought young! yet be in the prime earning portion

of his career!

I like B’s, midgets, A’s and T series.

my unscientific thoughts on price points if everything is equal is:

midgets are cheapest

MGB’s are next up the cost ladder

TD’s go up a bit higher

MGA’s (not twin cam) and TF’s go up a bit higher and are similar in price point

TC’s seem another notch up

MGA twin cams are the next level up.

this is just a general impression I have and prices for all of these models are “all over the map”. There are deals out there for each of these models and typically some reasonable choices if you are patient.

I Love Them All

Then we have all the prewar MGs

Yes.  Quite a bit of prewar stuff, I don’t know them as well but enjoy seeing them and talking about them also. I’ve also left out things like the magnette YB and 1100.

a great car with rich history.

as for the original post that started this. There’s quite a bit of bang for the buck with a nice MGB roadster.

John, that about says it all.  A collectible true sportscar with great support and a big following, part of a storied marque.  And you can get a nice one for 10k or maybe less.

Wonder what @YoungGuyClassicCar ends up doing?
