BlueDevil
I am trying to take off the flywheel on my 72, is there some trick? The ring gear keeps the wheel from pulling it off as it hits the bellhousing before clearing the studs. So do you, drive the studs in, drive the ring gear off, take it out with the crank??? viv w
You probably have to remove the crank and flywheel together.

keiser31
I would try to lightly tap the bolts in with the nut on the end so as to not damage the threads. I cannot imagine that you would have to take the crankshaft and flywheel out as a unit.
viv w
I have a 1926 model G70 and tried to take the flywheel off, it is a no go even if you tap the flywheel bolts fully in. There isn't enough room inside the housing to clear the flywheel bolts to remove the flywheel. A while back there was another owner asking the same question on his G70, his flywheel was missing teeth and he also could not remove the flywheel until he took it out WITH the crank. I haven't worked on a series 72 motor, but I would not be surprised if the above applies.
pre1939chrysler
VIV is the closest. You can use a brass rod to tap the bolt through toward the motor. There is just enough space to get one bolt aat a time out but it has to be perfectly in line. The last one is the hardest. Soaking and a little heat helps. BlueDevil
Ok, I found the easy way. Drop the bottom flywheel cover, drop the pan and remover the rear main bearing cap.
