Jolly_John Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 It would be super if someone could give me an idea of the application for this Rudge Whitworth #120 wheel wrench....or is it a hubcap wrench. Also, since I'd like to get it to a new "caretaker", any general thoughts on pricing would be appreciated. This wrench measures 3-3/16" across the flats, and is 11-3/8" long. Thanks. John
sagefinds Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 All the Rudge wire wheels seem to be in MM's,80,90,100 and 120 are some,I believe 120 was the biggest. The wheel was held on with a ring nut that took a spanner wrench,a hubcap just covered the center hole. I believe you have the wrench for the big 120 MM hubcap.
drwatson Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 John says "3-3/16" across flats", that's about 81mm.

Jolly_John Posted February 6, 2023 Author Posted February 6, 2023 Thanks for chiming in, Guys. Good information. I'll see if I can do more research based on your comments. If anyone has more to offer, I'd welcome that input. John
Layden B Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Rudge-Whitworth wire wheels were "sized" by the largest bearings that the hubs could be bored to accept. Thus a 120mm Rudge hub could accept a bearing with an outside diameter of 120mm. The 90mm seems to have not been manufactured here in the USA. I had a set of 100mm wheels ( clearly marked 100) that had been factory made to use 90mm bearings, thus there was nowhere in the whole set that had a dimension of 100mm!
Jolly_John Posted February 6, 2023 Author Posted February 6, 2023 Thanks for your comments, Layden. I'd like to get this Rudge-Whitworth wire wheel wrench into the hands of someone who can use it here on the forum. Based on your comments, is the distance between the flats more helpful info to a possible buyer, than the #120 shown on the wrench? John
sagefinds Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Here are pics of a hubcap off a 120 hub. Across the flats it's 3 1/8" so your wrench should fit it exactly it appears. Across the threads it's 4 13/16". I have some 100 stuff and some of the smaller but too buried to get out. There really isn't too much to these hubcaps.
Jolly_John Posted February 26, 2023 Author Posted February 26, 2023 Again, my thanks to those who took their time to help out with the application. I'm now offering this Rudge Whitworth wrench for sale in the "Parts for Sale" area of the forum. John
