B Jake Moran
Another easy pass. At $33,000. Jacked up rear - incorrect and stupid looking dual exhaust tips. Worn interior.
m-mman
Ya know this car should have been the hot rod of the early 50s. The prewar Ford V8 was the hottest engine going after production started again in 1945. Put a powerful V8 motor in a light body (Model A?) and instant muscle car. For 1949 Lincoln introduced a big new flathead V8. This should have been the pinnacle for Ford flathead performance. Especially IF the speed industry made parts for it. For 1949 Lincoln offered two sizes. A big heavy luxury car (which would have needed a big engine) and the smaller Lincoln built using the lighter Mercury body. This is the small body and having the “big Lincoln V8” it SHOULD HAVE been the hottest car for 1949. At least that’s how it looked during its 1943-44 design. Introduced in April 1948 it might have been for maybe 2-3 months but quickly ran headlong into the overhead V8s from Cadillac and Olds. Suddenly it’s not a “hot rod Lincoln” but a postwar bathtub with an ancient engine design. the Mercury became popular because they made speed parts for the Ford sized engine and they were cheap and fashionable to customize. The hopes were so high for this baby Lincoln coupe to be the best performer but then the rug was pulled out and it was left at the starting gate. Kinda sad in a way.

You guys are ripping on it and it's really not that bad if you keep it as a driver. I do agree the interior leaves a lot to be desired. If the car is rust free and the drivetrain is solid you have the makings for fun Lincoln coupe. If you can't afford the fat rounded design of a 49 Merc this may be you chance to get something similar. I always suggest Packard's problems like other independents began when they started to lose the technology races due to lack of big 3 critical mass. Here is an example of a car that should have been breathing down Cadillac's neck, largely forgotten then and now. It was an interesting time.. Ford of course eventually countered with the Continental Mark II and Lincoln Continentals, but that initial postwar period really set the course for a lot of success and faillure by the time the 59s were over.
