Douglas Gilmore Brown
This cylinder head has an old tag that says it is from a 1948 Pontiac. It is about 33 inches long, by 7 1/2 inches wide. It has " 505176, GM 3, and B118 " on top. Does it fit other years of Pontiac beside 1948?
dalef62
I have a 41 Olds head that measures the same. Probably used for years!
The 55er
Pontiac head used from 1937- 1949. Olds head used from 1937-1941.
Douglas Gilmore Brown
Thanks for your help ! I knew that Plymouth, Dodge, and DeSoto shared a lot of engine parts in the flathead era, but never suspected that Pontiac and Olds did.
Kornkurt
Pontiac and Olds DID NOT share engine parts.
Bloo
Yes, that's confusing. The parts do not interchange across makes like Dodge/Plymouth parts often do. Pontiac and Olds may have both kept the same head designs for several years, but did so separately. You can't put a head, or any engine parts really, from one of those makes on the other. Larry Schramm
If you look at the two heads, among differences is the coolant outlet. One is round and the other is oval.
