1950 Pontiac Streamliner Straight 8

I'm just starting restoration of my 1950 Pontiac Streamliner Straight 8.

I live in U.K. and would like to get my parts from 1 supplier to cut down on freight costs and import charges.

 

I've changed from 6 volt to 12 volt mainly because my replacement 6 volt battery burnt out and a new one is now going to cost me $400. (dont forget...I'm in the UK.

 

Is there a U.S. supplier who can provide things from Windshields to steering parts.

If you join the Pontiac-Oakland Club you will find all the suppliers you need.  You get a mag. every month with suppliers of parts and other having the same type of car. Also they have model year specialist that can help.  Nice looking car. Is it a straight eight?

I'm a member of POCI but I can't find any company to supply all. I can find 3 or 4 but I could do with 1 who will supply all, to cut down on costs. Parts are cheap in U.S. but by the time I pay individual shipping and taxes the price increases by approx. 2/3rds.

Just for your information...

Many Chevrolet and Oldsmobile models of the same vintage (1949 to 1951) share the same glass, some sheet metal and maybe some interior trim and parts. You might be able to source some things locally (in Europe or the UK). I think Pontiacs did not change much mechanically through 1954. Your Pontiac club members would know best. Good Luck...

Careful on windshields, all are not the same. Some are split, and some are one piece.

I have a list of all parts I need and know the differences on the screens etc. and that other models share the same parts.

 

I was wanting to know if any 1 supplier could fulfil the order without me incurring more costs going to individual suppliers

Welcome!  Fine-looking Pontiac you have there.   With regard to interchangeable parts, your Pontiac has the GM A-Body which was also utilized by concurrent Chevrolets and Oldsmobiles.  Specifically to the windshield and other glass.

Your car is a 50-2508 Deluxe Dynamic 4-door Jetback, the windshields, left and right are shared with:

Chevrolet 1949-'52, both 2-door and 4-door fastback sedans

Oldsmobile 1949-'50, both 2-door and 4-door fastback sedans

Pontiac 1949-'51, both 2-door and 4-door fastback sedans

All other glass is shared throughout those fastback sedans as well.  Since GM built literally hundreds of thousands of fastback A-Bodies in those model years, your best bet source is those supplying Chevrolets which were the most numerous.

I went to their site the other day, and noticed that it was in the middle of an update and didn't really work anymore. Their site was a little hard to use before, so I'm not surprised they are changing it, but the inventory was extensive. If anything is made new or reproduction, they probably have it. I think they have NOS too, but last I heard they were trying to get out of the NOS part. I have bought parts for my 36 from them. I would say call them but as you are overseas it might be better to use the contact form and take it to email.

 

KornKurt on the other hand is right here on the forum, and can be contacted via PM. I think he is mainly a NOS dealer, but you would have to ask what else he carries. He usually has what people are looking for, and is definitely worth checking with. If he doesn't have it he might know who to ask.

 

That said, it might be impossible to get everything from one source. There are a lot less of these cars around than Chevrolets or Fords.

 

Regarding clubs, Gary F mentioned POCI, but I would also mention the Early TImes Chapter (of POCI), who cover all the flathead cars (1954 and earlier plus Oaklands), and the Oakland Pontiac International chapter of AACA, who cover through 1958. Both publish a magazine or newsletter. Both have ads for parts. Direct website contact for either is spotty. Try email.

I got NOS for the Carb and Fuel/Vacuum pump and vacuum Wiper motor.

 

I've already got the websites saved for all other suppliers.

 

Although this is a new post, I've had the car for a few years and done a lot of research until I've now got the time to rebuild.
