  1. I'm looking for an oil bath air filter/silencer for my Pontiac straight eight. I want to keep originality rather than the small chrome modern filter which was fitted to the car when I bought it.
  2. Yeah, thanks for your reply. I've already got all the information for the car, it's full description is "1950 Pontiac 4 door sedan deluxe, straight eight streamliner, silverstreak". Body style 2508D. VIN# C8TH8953 C - made in South Gate, California. 8 - 8 cylinder T - 1950 H - Hydramatic (same gearbox as Rolls Royce) 8953 - Production # Original Colour was Cavalier Grey. I have the Shop Manual, Master Parts Catalogue and Interchangeable Parts List. The things I don't have is any form of advertising literature featuring the car. I'd like things just for my own collection. Adverts always show a 2-door. I needed 2 new front windshields and thought I found a source in Canada, then discovered the Canadian cars are different heights to USA ones. Also, the Chieftain windshields are 1" higher than the streamliner, cutting them down was an option ($600 + shipping and taxes) but could have been very expensive if anything was damaged. I eventually got a UK glass manufacturer to make me a laminated pair using the originals as a template. $350. I've completely rewired and converted to 12volt electrical system including electronic ignition to cope with the Manchester (UK) weather. Now I need a rechrome and interior reupholstery. When finished it will look good pulling the Airstream or Clipper (when finished)
  3. I'm rebuilding a 1950 Poniac. How rare is the 4 door silverstreak? I can't find any GM adverts from the time. Also looking for an external windshield sun visor.
  4. Great parts shot 'The 55er'. Thanks. From that I can work out that the stuff that fell out was most likely a soft foam rubber which provided insulation in the circuit and the 'spring' return for the horn ring. I'll experiment with suitable foam.
  5. Hi Ben, thanks for that but I don't want to put another hole in the dash. Already putting one in for turn indicators.
  6. Thanks, Just had a look but nothing there. I have a Shop Manual but it doesn't give anything on the horn ring
  7. I imported this car 7 years ago into the UK from Phoenix but due to family circumstances have only just been able to devote enough time to get it roadworthy prior to chrome, spray and upholstery work. I have already rebuilt the Carb, Fuel/Vacuum Pump and the windscreen wiper vacuum actuator, the rest of the mechanical stuff was completed by the previous owner. 43,000 miles Currently converting to 12 volts and a full rewire due to all insulation cracked and missing. I'm an ex aircraft maintenance and repair engineer with lots of experience in cars and all things mechanical but one thing that is confusing me is the assembly of the horn ring. A few weeks after I got the car, the horn started sounding of its own accord, I had to dismantle the horn ring to keep it quiet and I vaguely remember a piece of brittle rubber falling out so I know something is missing. Does anybody know how to assemble it and what parts I should have or where I can find the information? I also need to import 2 windshields, which supplier ships to UK? I bought the car to continue my American transport theme and will hook it up to one of my trailers - 1954 Airstream Globetrotter (total rebuild) or the 1949 Silverstreak Clipper (needs a refurb)
  8. Thanks. I got NOS for the Carb and Fuel/Vacuum pump and vacuum Wiper motor. I've already got the websites saved for all other suppliers. Although this is a new post, I've had the car for a few years and done a lot of research until I've now got the time to rebuild. Thanks for help and links
  9. Thanks for the help. I have a list of all parts I need and know the differences on the screens etc. and that other models share the same parts. I was wanting to know if any 1 supplier could fulfil the order without me incurring more costs going to individual suppliers
  10. Thanks for the link however, a search of their site shows no parts for chieftain or variants.
  11. I'm a member of POCI but I can't find any company to supply all. I can find 3 or 4 but I could do with 1 who will supply all, to cut down on costs. Parts are cheap in U.S. but by the time I pay individual shipping and taxes the price increases by approx. 2/3rds. Yes Straight 8. 42,000 miles
  12. I'm just starting restoration of my 1950 Pontiac Streamliner Straight 8. I live in U.K. and would like to get my parts from 1 supplier to cut down on freight costs and import charges. I've changed from 6 volt to 12 volt mainly because my replacement 6 volt battery burnt out and a new one is now going to cost me $400. (dont forget...I'm in the UK. Is there a U.S. supplier who can provide things from Windshields to steering parts.
  13. Thanks for your replies, I've found the VIN and body plate, and sorted out the numbers and type etc. Yes it's a 2508D "Streamliner Deluxe four door sedan". Everything is original, even down to there not being any direction indicators. I came across an advert for the "extras" that were available in 1950 and found that the direction indicators were an extra, as was the internal under seat heater. I can keep it in the UK without the direction signals if I use it on its own on the road, however we are going to tow our 1949 Silverstreak Clipper trailer with it, so I will have to put the circuit in the car. Yes the steering wheel is in the wrong place, on the left of the vehicle The original colour was Cavalier Grey but I may repaint in another 1950's colour Rob
  14. Hi, I've just collected the vehicle pictured. (on the trailer) I bought it as a 1951 Pontiac Eight Silverstreak. Problem is it doesn't look like any photo's I can find on the net. I've worked out it's a 1950 Pontiac 8 not a 1951. It's 4 door, straight 8 flathead, hydra-matic and obviously a silverstreak due to the trim. I've found reference to the body as "Jetback" don't know whether this is correct though I live in the UK. Any ideas? Any help with parts suppliers in the USA would also be a help Rob
