Louwman Museum, Den Haag (The Hague), Netherlands

There are 275 cars, motorcycles, and carriages in this well-done museum in Den Haag.  While the collection is heavily European, there are a number of American cars, including a Duesenberg J and an SJ, a couple of Studebakers, and some Hudsons.  But, the Mercedes, Alfas, Bugattis, etc. are what this place is all about.  It's about 35 miles south of Amsterdam if you are driving, about 1.5 hours on an intercity train.  There is even a nice lunch room in the museum.

It’s a very nice museum, and I have worked with some of their cars over the years. They usually have very nice stuff. A few Pierce Arrows at one time, nor I think they only have one early example. Also a great fire truck that was local to me for many years.

Ed, there were (at least) two P-A's at the Museum when we were there in 2017.  We're hoping to go back in late 2021 or early 2022, as my daughter and her family are living just over a mile from the Museum.

Much earlier than 1917 (Series 4), which would have a cast aluminum curved cowl and much more modern fenders.  But it could be an earlier body transferred to a 38-B-4 chassis, or a custom of some kind.  And the curve of the top hood panels and radiator shoulders are not traditional Pierce.

The confusion about the 1917 Pierce-Arrow is understandable:  the body was built by Studebaker for Pierce.  Fortunately, I took a photo of the placard next to the car.

One of our local club members visited there just before the world shut-down.  We've been anxiously waiting for him to do a program for our club but the monthly meetings have been on hold since then - soon to change though.  Anxious to see a few of his hundreds of photos.

We finally got our look at this fabulous place, thanks to Mike Haag of the Tidewater Region AACA. He provided a fascinating look through pictures from his visit. This was a great beginning to our return to normal with a well attended dinner at the Chesapeake Conference Center.  Mike delivered a really interesting commentary. The museum is not only filled with great cars, but  also a wonderful collection of automobilia. It does a remarkable job presenting the history of the automobile. I know it's a long way from here but it's on our bucket list

I'll be back in Den Haag in late June visiting my daughter who lives about 1/2 mile from the Louwman Museum, can also get some photos for others.  But, it's the last planned visit as she is moving back to the U.S.  The good news is that she and her family will now be living within 75 miles from me.
