Recommended Posts

Just curious,is it normal for my 35 to have such slopp between 1st and 2nd? and is there a way to tighten it up?It feels like I can rotate my shifter in a circle. It still goes into gear alright and I have to be completely stopped to put it in first.Thanks,Greg.

You didn't say which model. If you have the shift tower that is only about an inch high, usually found in small Buicks, there are parts in the tower that wear and can be replaced, however they do normally have slop even when new.

If you are in a hurry at the stoplight to get into gear, touch second or third before you go for first. The synchronizer will stop all the gears.

These kits occasionally appear NOS on ebay or this one may still be available.

One of these kits will put the shift back to factory specs and reduce the slopp.
