rowan782
1961 Buick Flamingo - GM introduced the 1961 Olds Starfire, don't know why this wasn't viable also??
NTX5467
Possibly seat belt and occupant safety concerns? NTX5467
JohnD1956
Most likely the onerous cost of all the buttons needed for the upholstery. Of course, what they don't show is: two people facing each other in that car. I imagine that would have pushed the limits of decency in 1961. Not so much so today...LOL...
NTX5467
1967 Imperials had a "Mobil Director" option where the rh front seat pivoted to face rearward, but there was a folding table between the two occupants. Quite neat for the executive who needed to get out of the office, had a personal driver, and a secretary who'd take notes of the "mobil meeting". Beemon
I could understand something like this going away due to crash safety tests and the potential risks the passenger may face, especially with modern airbags. The one that always got me, though, was the Mopar swivel buckets that faced you when you opened the door. Those were cool.
riv2x4
I seem to recall in the 70's, Monte Carlo's had swivel seats of some sort.
EmTee
Yes, swivel buckets were optional on mid-70's Monte Carlos and the Laguna S3.
NTX5467
And 1959-60 Plymouths. The GM swivel seats didn't have all of the adjustments which non-swivel seats did. Kind of crude when I finally sat in one. NTX5467
