25 Buick
Do you think there is an asbestos risk with the 1920's brake liners?

Mark Shaw
If you have suspected asbestos brake liners, soak them in water before working on them.
Hubert_25-25
A very interesting question. They did put asbestos in a lot of things in the old days. I remodeled an office built in the 70's and there was an extra box of vinyl floor tiles in the attic from when the 12" square vinyl floor was installed. In 2" letters on the box was the word Asbestos. It was not a warning, but rather an advertisement that this was durable flooring. They put it in some paints too. I usually associate asbestos and dust with old brake shoes and braking compounds. These 20's Buicks use what looks to be a woven material that may even have some brass threads in it. Similar stuff in the clutch.
