That number does not appear in my chassis parts book as a part number for any cylinder head for Buicks between 1928 and 1941. It could be a later head but I suspect the number is a casting number rather than the part number and thus I have no idea how you can identify it by that number. Often the casting numbers are not that far off from the part number so they can lead to a lot of confusion.  1937 Cylinder Head part numbers are 1297514 for 40 Series (regular jobs), 1293271 for 40 Series (high speed jobs), and 1301923 for Series 60-80-90.

MCHinson,

Thank you for your quick and informative reply. I will take a look to see what else is on the head.

OK, the only other castings on it are a GM and then a 12 and a 13. It has only two threaded holes for the studs that go into the head to hold the valve cover down with the acorn nuts. Seems it might be a much later head??

Thanks,

Dave

My '37 has three studs/acorns on the rocker cover.   Two on the spark plug cover.

Thanks Gary,

I did check your photos for that. HOWEVER, the head on my engine has two threaded holes for the studs. The center acorn was on a dummy stud. So the head must be later.

Again, fantastic postings you are doing. Quite the documentation for others in the future.
