avgwarhawk
The 49 does have that very distinctive back end. For me, I do not see any 49 in my area so I would look to have the 49.
Paul Falabella
I love the slope back body also, but you won't have the factory options available on the 55. Tough choice or get both.
Pete Phillips
Some people have to have power steering and air conditioning in their antique cars. The '55 is more likely to have those (since the '49s came with neither one--duh!!), and/or is easier to add those. Both of these cars are good choices for long-term value. Me, I prefer the character of the older cars, and when two cars are otherwise equal, the older one always has more character or "panache". 60FlatTop
What could you do with your '49 for the cost of a '55? I know of a guy who could have really made his car nice for the cost of the next one. Bernie
Guest 54fins
That all depends on what you are starting with. The drive train is the easy part, body condition will make or break your car. Pick the one with the least rust. They are 2 completely different styles. I would say the 55 hard top my be more marketable but the 49 is a very cool style you wont see much. You can spend thousands on body work, I find that the better the body you start with the better the car. Any major body work can easily exceed the value of the car
