old car fan
Want to lube the speedometer cable on our 57.,how do you get to it.
Pete Phillips
It screws into the left end of the speedometer housing, which can either be reached from underneath the dashboard (if you have small, thin hands), or unscrew and pull off the top part of the dashboard and reach in from the top. The other end, of course, screws into the side of the transmission. Smartin
I *think* that you can pull the inner cable out from the end where it connects to the transmission. I just did this on my 60, and it should be similar to yours. I'm working on a 55 Pontiac, and it is the same way.
old car fan
Certainly can not get my hand up there, was going to go in from the top,but wanted to ask the experts. Will try that later in the week. Thanks
Guest
Make sure you only lube the bottom third of the cable. It will work it's own way up. If you lube the whole cable it will likely work into the speedo head and cause all kinds of troubles.

lancemb
It's very easy to gain access from the top when you pull the dash pad off. It's the way to go! 10 min to get the dash pad off and 1 to unscrew the cable from the speedo. Enjoy!
