Grandpa's old car

I know it's not much. But mom's been going through some old pics and was wondering if anyone could identify the year of her father's old car. To me it appears to be a 1949-1955 custom. If someone can narrow it down both mom and I would appreciate it.

I was told it was taken on a his way from aurora il to Santa Barbara California where he would ship off to the Korean war. Other than that I don't have a clue.

Looks to be a 1950 Ford with accessory exterior visor and Cadillac wheel covers.

Ya that's what I was thinking.

Correct, it's a 1950 Custom Deluxe.

Any ideas how I would go about tracking this car down. What kind of info would i need to do so?

The odds for finding it without some basic data like a Vin or a license number are astronomical.

Ya that's what I figured. How would I even start going about it though?

You'd do far better to look for a similar car but realize, ford made of hundreds of thousands of those and there are hundreds left. It's not impossible but if you don't have VIN tag data you will never be able to know if it's the right one.

As Sambarn implied in Posting #15, the chances of

its being around today are very slim.  Only a small

percentage of cars in use in that era survive today--

perhaps just a few per cent.  That would mean that

95% or more of the 1950 Fords are gone.

So even if you had the serial number, it would likely

not be found.

But don't despair!  One of our AACA Region members

in Pennsylvania has had a virtually identical car for sale!

His is a 1950 Ford sedan, maroon, and is completely restored,

a past AACA Grand National winner!  That means virtually

perfect condition.  If it is still available, it would be under $20,000.
