billbuickgs
Is it necessary to remove the top of the dash when removing the speedometer ?The mph pointer fell off , looks like a tuff job getting to it.Bill
buick5563
The first time I did it, I removed it from the bottom. The last time I did it, I had the dash off to paint it, and the nuts on the back side were noticeably easier to remove (rather than trying to access them from below). old-tank
As Mike noted, the nuts are easier to get off if the top of the dash is off, but the speedometer still has to come out the bottom. I just did the R&R and had to loosen the fuse panel, remove the headlite switch and wiper switch ( the headlite and wiper switches needed service anyway ) and even then I had to pry the wiring bundle on this car to get it to drop out.Willie

Paul Falabella
If I may add, Roadmaster and Super Speedos are attached to the dash top. And if by chance this past winter one may have taken the dash and speedo out to paint said dash, one should have lubed said speedo so it would not have become noisy. Just saying. So next winter said dash will come out again to replace headliner and at that time will be lubed. Just saying.
