1955 Roadmaster leak

Recommended Posts

Got a small coolant leak. Appears to be coming from the bottom of the thermostat housing/manifold. Figure it is a bad O-ring. Correct in assuming it comes off with four bolts, two through lower A/C compressor mount and two through the P/S pump bracket? Or are there more?

Pull the cross over manifold straight up, otherwise you can easily break off the nipple that goes into the timing cover. Clean well! Some deeper pits can be filled with JBWeld. Coat the new O-ring with RTV and put it into the pocket in the timing cover. I never used 2 O-rings, but it sounds like a good idea. Support the a/c compressor with an engine hoist so you can get the bracket off.

Paul, some of those bracketry bolts go into water jacket. Check to see if they have bottoms or blow some air into hole to check them. Any bolt holes into head or water jacket may need some dope on the threads to seal them or they will leak out from under bolt heads also.
