65 Riviera HVAC Vacuum Lines

I am in process of fixing the heating and A/C systems on my 65. I have all of the needed parts with the exception of the vacuum lines for the heater and a/c controls. Most of mine are rotted out and need to be replaced. Obviously I could just buy vacuum line and replace as needed but I could have sworn that I saw a complete set (color coded) for sale on www.oldbuickparts.com but now can not find it anywhere. Anyone know of a source for the complete set of lines?

I personally never recall seeing such a set from CARS. I wish somebody made a color coded set. I'd buy one.

I have color coded vacuum lines on my '64. I parted out a 1969 Cadillac and took all the nicely weather protected hoses from under the dash. There was a lot and the colors matched pretty good. When I ran short I used standard, uncolored, hose inside the console. What shows in the engine compartment is all correct. One good thing about New York rust belt cars, stuff under the dash stays nice and doesn't get cooked on all our grey cloud covered days.

I took the lines and the block that fits in the hole in the firewall completely out. I pulled one line at a time out of that block and cut a length of new vacuum line to match it but added about 5 inches extra. I bought different colors of model paint at a hobby shop and using the corresponding color to the line that I removed, painted a small stripe on both ends of the new line. Once the paint was dry I pulled the new line through that block. My Riv also has the vacuum trunk release and I used most of the two forty rolls that I had purchased at the auto parts store. Since I bought so much vacuum line, they lowered the price per foot. Technically these line are not correct but they work very well.

One other suggestion to anyone who has the HVAC controls and console out of your car, install your lines on the back of the controls and then install the console. Then just lift the controls up and attach to the console. This makes the job a lot easier.

All very good advice. I will probably end up doing them one at a time as Don suggests. Just wished I could remember where I saw the set for sale. There aren't that many parts sites that I frequent but I know I saw one. Should have saved it off in my favorites. Ah well. Thanks all for the thoughts.

This company has kits but you might try contacting them to see if the have the correct colors and if they would sell it by the foot.

Old air products has them. 23-0905 is the part number. $36 bucks. I used them on my 64.

Don't forget Eckler's Corvette www.ecklers.com Vettes as you know use, a lot of vacuum lines, and are color coded.

I have not purchased them yet but will be purchasing them through Old Air Products early next month. I will definitely post up here about how things go. Have a big trip coming up in a few days that's hitting the pocket book pretty hard so been focused on getting everything set for that. As soon as the holidays are past its back to the baby and getting the heater and A/C back up and running.

I don't know about the 1st gen Rivs, but when I pulled the (manual) control from my 67, it is real helpful to have the shop manual; they lay out the paths of the color coded vacuum lines so clearly that even I could follow them. One thing though- there is a rubber block that acts like a "junction box" that attaches to the main control assembly. Be sure not to put it in upside down. Like some guy I know did. Just sayin..
