Hi George,

Very nice job on the car.....very nice.

Could I ask a favour. Could you take some close up photos of the id badges on the firewall and post them on this site. I'm getting more information about the different types of plates and it all goes to completing my info.

Thanks

Ian

George,

The car is looking just great and you sure do have a lot of nice pictures there. Actually enough great pictures to tell me I sure do have a lot of work to do on my car (your cars twin) and can only hope that it looks as nice as your car when I finish it.

Oh, one question. I see in one of your pictures that you have what appears to be the original door sills, is that true? They actually look almost like new. I do not have a set on my car which means I have to add those to the list of the parts for me to find. Scott...

Scott,

Nice to here form you,yes a tone of work is ahead of you but if you do the work with love and dedication you will have no trouble completing the restoration. We had only a couple of places[small] touch ups as far as body work is concern...I restored by the book from from the frame ...up.and also depends at what level do you want to restore your car...as I saw your Dodge 1968 you will do just fine ...and besides that I will provide you with all the info.picks and

help you need.Go to a store and buy a lot of patience ,,,we had days where we did not accomplished more than changing a couple of screws.....and was not easy.

Lots of pictures taken and I hope that you received the ones you asked for .....upholstery ,I did not get confirmation that you received them.I received from the previous owner even the Sunday post with the date of this car advertised for sale by the DODGE BROTHERS dealers that's why I chose the paint as was advertised....and i tried to keep it as original as possible. The car came with the original door seals ( aluminum) made, scratched and in a very bad shape ,Daniel spent a couple of days polishing and trying to bring them at this level,

I can send you samples of the material I used for upholstery if you provide a mailing address.Yesterday my engineer told me that this car had a good char ma,hope yours has too..

Good luck,George

Jason ,to answer your last part of the question " What is your plan with the vehicle now ?"

I WILL ENJOY THE CAR EVERY WEEKEND ,I RESTORED THE DG-8 FOR MY SUMMER TRIPS ...is a solid sturdy car which can take me around. Sunday as I was driving for the first time I realized that is dependable and seats well in the traffic.

So.....

More pictures,I was surprised when I found this part of the car manufactured in Switzerland and stamped...is not coming more original than that !!!!!

The doors where manufactured in Philadelphia.....by the Budd co. The clock is working as well as all the board instruments

Not too much work as far as woodwork...

I sure hope that I am interpreting this photo wrong. If that is soft copper tubing then it may not be safe for use as brake lines. Maybe you've polished up some copper-nickel alloy tubing so it looks like copper. But if not...

No, is not soft copper tubing,is Copper but quite hard and is purchased from a company from Germany which sales restoration parts and supply for antiques cars.

The diameter is 8mm.

If you can suggest a place with a better product used in car restorations please let me know,

Thanks ply33

Scott,

I looked over your DG-8 pictures and on section 4 I noticed that you have the 2 original door sills over a wheel with a tire on it and next to a generator,on the left hand side is a orange basket with different parts from the engine I suppose.

At least they look to me that where on the ground in the back yard where the car was located....

Good day,George

Thank's George for having a look. I've not looked at the original pictures in a while. What is not explained by the pictures is that the pictures of the car were taken quite some time before I bought the car and went down to pick it up. Yes there were lots of parts spread about the yard like shown when I picked it up and I did pick up every thing in sight but I sure do not recall seeing these when going through the car and parts when I got it home. The missing parts and trying to get any kind of reply from the seller turned into a whole new story. So with all that being said, I will check again through all the parts and let you know how things turn out on the missing door sills. Scott...

George,

One other thought. After looking more at your pictures (which I think look great) I've come up with another question. If you can not answer maybe someone else here can chime in with their thorughts. I noticed the frame and all the other "Black" parts look to be a high gloss black paint. For some reason I was of the opinion that all these parts originally were a semi-gloss black paint. Don't get me wrong for a second, I really like how your car has turned out just as it is, it is just me being a bit curious. Scott...

You commented on the door sill covers.

Mine were all but disintegrated and someone put me on to this guy who had the original patterns. So good were they that a friend of mine who is a coach builder wanted some for his 2 Door Chrysler Coupe. When they arrived he nearly cried he was so excited.......sad isn't it !

Anyhow this is the contact if your interested :

Doorsills

81 Graham Ave

North Haledon, N.J. 07508

Phone 973-423-1196

They are not the fastest but quality well worth waiting for and from memory my complete set cost me AUD$240.00 for my 34 Dodge.

George,

If your ever need a new Budd Body plate, I make them and sell them. They are acid etched so they dont have the raised stamping of the letters but one guy I sold one to in the States said it was a work of art....so had to be happy with that. I also look after any AACA Members.

I've attached a picture for you.

Hello Ian,

Thank you for the info regarding the door sills reproduction,is an important finish line of the car,I might consider to order a pair just in case he is located not too far from Rockledge Pa. just over the Delawere river.GOOD INFO.

As you saw my plates are all original and raised ,but is good to know. What do you mean " they are not the fastest " in construction of the door sills....how long it takes them to make the sills ? 2-3 weeks ? more ?

Thanks Ian

Hello George,

I have been following this thread. It is refreshing to see such care and attention to detail. A very nice Dodge which I am sure you are proud of.

Also a very smart (and expensive !) XK 140. As an honorary life member of the Jaguar Driver's Club here in the U.K., I take a special interest in these cars. I have restored a 1930 Austin Swallow saloon which is small but nice.

Ray.

Hi George,

I ordered my sill covers and it took approx 6 to 8 weeks delivered to Australia.

Worth the wait.

Ian

I guess it depends on how busy they are, I inquired on a set some time ago and I was told that it would take 3-5 months as they were doing this as a part time deal, sorta just as a sideline I guess.
