Rare Olds Sign and You Can't Have it!

Recommended Posts

I still wonder what became of the 40s-50s vintage Oldsmobile, Oldsmobile Service, and Oldsmobile with HydraMatic Drive neon signs that were on F.E. Watkins Motor Co in South Hill VA. They were on the building and in reasonably good shape until the Watkins family sold their Chevy and Olds franchises to Sadler out of Emporia VA (the NASCAR Sadlers). The Sadlers remodeled the building facade and never saw the neons again after that.

Reminds me that both the Buick and Pontiac dealers here would courtesy wash a customer's car after almost any service work. Swanson did it for Cadillacs, but not Oldsmobile or Nissan.

Hey Steve, Thought you might like to look at this one. Found it in a Ca. antique shop. Live in Ca. now. I am originally from chicago area and bought a few olds from Mars olds. Where is their stuff? Haven't been back in a long time.

Never got back to this thread as the auction company did not recognize my bid and I lost the sign! Ed, Jack and Chuck Thompson were my friends and I actually was their service rep for awhile. I lost another similar sign to the one I posted today in worse condition but it went over my budget. Sure wish mioney was no object at times but I guess I can't have it all. I did get this stained class 30 X 40 artwork that i first saw in 1976 and could not afford to buy! (post picture tomorrow!)

I have been thinking, might you have anything from Wally & Lennertz Oldsmobile that you might be willing to let go to a worthy house. It may not mean anything to most people, but as you know I have a individual connection/interest?. . . .

Your connection to Walter & Lennertz would be, asks a former "Region Rat" from the "Steel City"?

Steve,

I have been wondering, might you have anything from Walter & Lennertz Oldsmobile that you might be willing to let go to a deserving home. It may not mean anything to most folks, but as you know I have a personal connection/interest?
