running boards on early 4 cyl cars

hello all

On teens cars should the running boards go UNDER the splash shields??? I assumed they should as there is an attachment flange along the outer edge of the shields about 1/2 " in from the edge. I have seen some cars where the running board butts up to the edge of the shield but does not go under. How then should the metal edging be finished? all 4 sides? Only 3 sides??? Thanks bob

My experience shows running boards under the splash apron lip until 1921 which has the board over a different type lip of the apron. So, '20 and older under the apron. I do not know about the edging for sure but I think on early cars it is 4 sides.

My 1919 (not sure it is truely 'correct' - so take this with a grain of salt) has the running board on top of the lip and fender flanges. It is finished on all 4 sides.

My 23 screenside has edging on all four sides and it goes over the lip and is original.

Let me correct my last statement. Should have read the later cars (21 and later) have trim on 4 sides. I am fairly certain the switch was between 20 and 21, but nothing is absolute in the DB world!
