Tom Martinez
Can someone please tell me what the difference was between the standard 120 and the deluxe 120 models of 1940?--Tom, Running Springs, Ca.
West Peterson
I may be incorrect, but I don't think there was an official "Deluxe" for 1940. If you bought a 120, you added whatever you wanted off the options list and made your own "deluxe."
Restorer32
Wes, I agreed with you but then checked Turnquist just out of curiosity. There is in fact an 1801 Standard and an 1801 Deluxe, designated DE before the "species" number. An 1801 Deluxe Club Coupe would be a DE1395. Learn something new every day. Tom Martinez
Thanks for the reply West. The reference books and the Packard club website show a deluxe model at $50 more than the standard model and the style number has a DE suffix. At 50 bucks it could not have been much...extra chrome? mirrors? heater?--Tom

West Peterson
Back to the original question: How do you tell the difference? It appears that most, if not all, the items included on the Deluxe are optional items. So, if a Standard is equipped with the optional items, how does one tell the difference? Is there a "DE" stamped anywhere on the body of a Deluxe?
Owen_Dyneto
The DeLuxe version (DE) of the 1941 160 series has the "DE" as part of the vehicle number on the patent plate, it would be logical for Packad to have handled the DE version of the 1940 120 the same way. Packard Library
tomdid you download and print the trade letter in the first columm it tells you the model id (ie: DE 1392) etc. So yes the your plate will have a DE in front of the body number. stevep516
Dave,I am curious about the book Jim Hollinsworth wrote about the 40 Packard. Where can I get a copy?I am so excited because my Dad and I went to LaPlace, La in 1984 and brought back a 1940 110 Conv Cpe back to Va. Recently, he called me and said "come and get the Packard, you're gonna get it anyway so you may as well enjoy it"Needless to say, I was overwhelmed!! Now I'm looking for information about the car.ThanksSteve P

Guest Orphanauto
I spoke to Jim recently, he is going to the Packard meet in Branson this July. I'll look up his phone number and pass it along if you would like. Please email me. He won't mind, a super nice guy. He sells them at the meets sometimes, I'm sure he will sell you one, and like mine, he will sign it. Excellent book. oh, by the way, it is my understanding the Deluxe 120 has stainless steel trim around the windshield, the reguler 120 does not. That is one way you can tell.
