Peerless Photos

Here's an oldie but a goodie. A photograph taken in California in 1931. A few weeks later, a couple was given this sedan to drive on their honeymoon....from Cleveland to Saratoga Springs, New York and back: Mr. & Mrs. Scott Montgomery.

I've seen a picture of it in front of the church they were married in, but haven't the vagueist idea how they rated that. Maybe a newspaper at this resort area covered it.  You'd think that when they pulled up to the hotel or dined out there would be quite a stir, and would have made the society pages. 1 of the Peerless V-16 automobiles built, and the only one known to still exist.

There was a 1927 Peerless Six-60 that sold at an auction in the UK on 5/26/20. I've been following it for 16 years; it's a grey and maroon Sedan which has changed hands a bit, and someone had done a lot of work on the frame and the wood base for the body. Tony Howard, Graham Beckford and the wedding limousine business Occasion Cars were previous owners. Engine was apart. This photo shows some excellent progress on the lower woodwork:

Another picture shows some of the rest, not counting the remaining parts.

Vern: Is this a Model "T"?

Skeeter: It might be. If it's black, has a 20 HP four-cylinder and costs 300 bucks.

Vern: Wut? Uh, it's got dual exhaust, a 332 Cu. In. V-8 and costs 3 or 4 thousand dollars.

Skeeter: You know what, Vern? It's a 1923 Peerless Model "66" Touring Phaeton...the 8th year Peerless built that 80 HP engine. You were REAL close.

Hello K. Lilienthal,

Long lost car found! I always thought that was an especially nice-looking Six-61 with the three colors and wire wheels.

Your name sounds familiar. Otto Lilienthal was one of the Fathers Of Flight, of course. Please tell us about your Peerless and where you live. Victory Cars sells a lot to European customers; for instance, a Swiss fellow bought a 1929 Six-61 from them.

This 1927 Peerless 6-60 was for sale at Classic Promenade in California for $24,800 and sold. The radiator mascot is collectible unto itself....previous owner having been offered $7,500 for it. A similar story from the seller of the 1925 Mod. 6-70 Touring Phaeton when F/S in Saskatchewan 4 years ago...same ornament, supposedly only given out to high-volume dealers.

This is one of the last photos taken in Great Race livery. All stickers and labels were respectfully removed and toasted appropriately.  "FEARLESS PEERLESS" will live on in eternity. Confetti was removed from under rear seat. Thanks Ron Martin for getting her to me...it's a match made in heaven.

*** So you got the Peerless for sale by Streetside Classics! Didn't Peerless specialists Pistorius Collectible Autos in Odessa, FL restore it?

It's interesting to compare this Six-60 to the one in the previous post. No IDEA who the new owner of that is.

Photo of one of the best sellers of Peerless models, the least expensive, and the one to survive in the greatest numbers, the Six-61.

This car resides in the Vancouver, B.C. area -- 1 of 2 known Sports Roadsters in existence.

Interesting to know the chassis price for this model, a marque known for at least fifty coachbuilders. Packard, Duesenberg, and Rolls-Royce are the only ones that come to mind as having close to those numbers.

The Car was purchaced by an online dealer several years ago. I have installed a new cloth covered wiring harness from rhode Island wiring.

The car is currently in Pendleton, Oregon and as of today I am listing it for Sale. It runs and drives (and stops). I have too many cars to care for and can not afford to keep them all.
It comes with the material to replace the top. asking $21k OBO

A rather nice car out on a tour three years ago:

Screenshot 2024-03-10 at 5.03.45 PM.png

Did you hear the one about when a 1966 Shelby Super Snake, 1907 Silver Ghost, 1912 Pierce-Arrow Series 66, 1911 Oldsmobile Limited, 1932 Peerless V-16 and 1912 60-Six, 1968 Miura, and the 1928 Bentley Bobtail pulled into a Pizza Hut parking lot in Manhattan? A college kid from the Signa Phi Iota fraternity rushed out and asked "What are those eight cars worth?" The answer? "They're all the same. Priceless".

Can anyone guess which one this is? Hint, it has the biggest engine.

nope

At 714 vs. 825, another one was bigger*, according to one source**; but the next year the two marques were the same.

*  the Peerless Mod. 60-Six of 1912-1914

** conceptcar.com  suggests the 1910-1912 Model 66 Pierce-Arrows were equipped with 714 Cu. In. powerplants, changing to 825 Cu. In. about 1913.

Here ya go, a really nice 1920 Peerless Sedan, Model 56. It was in a museum in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee which probably closed, then after 50 years there sold for about $9,000 at an auction, then was on Classsiccars.com listed at  three times the price and sold it. Original, running condition. 80 HP Peerless aluminum 322 Cu. In. V-8, 4-barrel carburetor, dual exhaust. Quite a step up from a 20 HP Ford! No idea where it is now. 8 examples of 1920 Peerlesses are known to exist --- according to KPAIE.

Pretty car, but another 2 barrel carb magically turned into a 4 barrel???
