  1. Got mine yesterday!!! Another GREAT issue. I was particularly happy to see a blurb on a modified car. Great work Pete!!! Gary in IN
  2. Derek: I don't have anything to offer on your question but it is sure GREAT to see you back on the forum!!! Hope all is well. Gary
  3. Man am I envious!!! Nothing better than to prowl around in old junk yards. Now is certainly the time to be prowling in Georgia as I would imagine that the snakes are about ready to come out for the summer. I DO NOT do snakes. Take a look at the post "Sitting and Rotting" on the HAMB Hokey Ass Message Board (Jalopy Journal) particularly the posts by SouthUrn. He is from GA and has access to what appears to be a HUGE yard with some pretty decent stuff in it.
  4. Is there any one in the Whitehall, NY area that knows anything about the 1939 Buick Coupe on the Vermont Craigslist? I have called several times and get no response. I am very interested in purchasing this car! Sorry that I do not know how to attach the add.
  5. It has been a long time (sold in 1958) since I owned my '39 Buick business coupe. I was in high school and young and foolish! If memory serves me correctly the speedometer went to 120 MPH. Many a time I would bury the speedometer on the way home from a date. It was one of the fastest cars top end in our area at the time. Just needed 3 or 4 miles to get it up to speed!!

    1923 Maxwell

My dad sold his 1925 Maxwell Touring car before he passed away. Seems like it might have been in '97 or '98. It was a pretty darn nice restored car. It did have some issues with the original coil but would run and drive. Unfortunately there was very little interest in the car. I think he let it go for less that $6000.

  11. I have 6 pieces of stainless window trim that is in nice condition that were laying loose in a '42 Buick 4 DR Touring Sedan that I parted out a couple of years ago. (This is all that's left!!) 12. You can sure find some tough ones to recover! The one in DC and now maybe this one! Check with Lanier in Clermont, GA (770 314 1982). He hauled my Caddy up here from Atlanta. I actually found him on U-Ship but negotiated a deal with him seperately as he had to pay a fee to go through U-Ship.

    Got my BCA #

Welcome! A great magazine and lots of great people in the club! Gary
  14. Just was checking out the H.A.M.B. parts for sale on Jalopy Journal and see that there is a guy in CA that is parting a '57 4 DR HT and he says it's rust free.
  15. Troy: Lots of good advice from people who have been there and done that! I have one of those "rare" '57 2 DR Ht Specials with a standard shift and no power steering. Fortunately it was a decent Texas car that just needed an engine over haul and now needs a new paint job. It is a BLAST to drive. I love to have today's "hot rodders" in their Honda's and Toyota's pull up beside me at a light and look over at the old man driving that old junk Buick. There expression sure changes when they get to the next light and I am setting there waiting for them!! Take your time and enjoy the build. It will be worth it when it is finished! Gary By the way I have been told that about 10 % of '57 Buicks were built with standard transmissions. I have only seen two or three so you do have a rather rare survivor.

  17. For Sale: 1957 Olds Dash (SHEET METAL ONLY) from a Super 88 that was equipped with factory A/C (has openings on lower portion of both sides of the dash). These look GREAT in a 1957 Buick Special or Century! $100.00 plus shipping. PM me with your e-mail/contact info for pictures.
  18. I have a pair of heads, rods and pistons and crank from a '57 special. The crank has been cleaned and checked and it is still a standard grind. The heads and rods and pistons are 'as removed" from the block. I also have a 2 BBL and 4 BBL intake. If interested please PM me with your contact info. Gary South Bend, IN
  19. I find this post most interesting. My dad and I restored (mostly my dad as I was a teen ager) a 1925 Maxwell Touring in the late '60's. One of the things that I remember doing was cutting and welding the top of a 55 gallon drum to make a trough and filled it with linseed oil and firing the oil with charcoal for several hours each to bring the wood back to "life". They turned out beautiful and the local high school art teacher painted a yellow stripe on each spoke. Pretty snazzy old buggy!! Dad is gone and unfortunately so is the Maxwell. When he restored the car he lived in Virden, Il and ran a Western Auto Associate Store. He drove the car in local parades and I took it to some area shows. After he retired the car followed him to Canton, Il and ultimately was stored at my home in South Bend, IN. It was still in very good condition with the exception of coil and spark issues. Dad sold the car before he died and stood in my drive and cried as it was trailered away. The last I knew in the mid 80's the car was back in West Centeral Il as I was interested in trying to buy it back. Unfortunately the owner at the time thought it was a Duesnburg and had it priced accordingly! I do have a couple of pictures and would be happy to make copies if anyone is interested. PM me with your e-mail address. By the way does anyone happen to know where the car is today? It was dark blue with black fenders. Merry Christmas, Gary
  20. Thanks for the response. It is a stock '57 Caddy 365. Rebuilt in '92 but has never been ran. Still on engine stand.
  21. Rob: That's what I remember also! Also 1957 BuickJim indicated that there was a spray can at Auto Zone or some such parts house that matched very nicely. Gary
  22. Graduated in 1958. Depending whether you are talking top end or 1/4 mile. My '39 Buick Special Business Coupe was the fastest top end at 125+. The fastest in the quarter was a '57 3 duece Pontiac. The fastest car I ever drove (and want to drive) was an early 240Z Datsun which topped out at 140 +. Pretty scary!!!
  23. Any one in the Pittsburgh, PA area familiar with Roman's Auto Parts and Machine Shop in Carnegie, PA? I am interested in buying a rebuilt engine from a third party that was rebuilt by Roman's. Anyone familiar with them? Any feed back on quality, reliability, workmanship and etc. would be appreciated. Thanks, Gary South Bend, IN BCA 43395
