I had model 46 in 1957! One problem that I encountered was overheating, especially # 8 cylinder. Rebuilt the engine twice. Drove it hard but a fun car! Enjoy!

pre war ....cars.....and the term or slang
g-g-g0 replied to arcticbuicks's topic in General Discussion
In the US all civilian auto production was halted on or before February 22, 1942. In the Buick world (Buick Club of America) 1942 models are considered “Pre War”. -

Well the time has finally come to get out of the old car “business”/hobby/collecting! Father Time is influencing my decisions and family members are not interested in the hobby. So let me tell you a bit of history and then to the present. As a teenager in the late 50’s cars were a crucial parts of every boys life. I started with the basics, a 40 Chevy 4 door sedan, 39 Buick Special business coupe, 50 Chevy business coupe, and many more. While attending Iowa State University, I discovered that many farmsteads held hidden treasures (old cars) in their buildings! So I got in the habit of buying some, 37 Ford 2Dr slant back W/60 HP engine, early 28 Ford roadster and hauling them home to Illinois. Also had accumulated 5 Austin Healey’s and one of 50+ Healey Westlands that were built. After graduation and a new wife I was still always looking to buy “old cars” and either reselling or parting out. My favorite was a ROUGH 32 Chevy coupe with a rumble seat. That car ended up scattered all over the WORLD after I parted it. So in the early 80’s I was transferred to Memphis, TN with International Harvester. This had a major impact on my car collecting habit as at the time very few homes in Memphis had garages. Only carport’s! So I sold my cars and parts. 3 years later I moved to Indiana, lost my wife to cancer, remarried and got the itch to get back into CARS! So I found a decent 53 Super convertible on EBay and ended up buying it. Also acquired through the years a 42 Buick Sedanet, 69 Buick SportWagon, 57 Buick Special 46R, built a 57 Buick 46R restomod and parted numerous other 50’s Buicks and Oldsmobiles. I have shipped parts including complete engines and rear ends to several countries in Europe, Scandinavia, Australia and New Zealand plus all over the US. It has been a GREAT ride. I have made many friends and lots of acquaintances through the hobby over the years. So over the years, there have been several Buick daily drivers! The 39 Coupe, 69 LeSabre , 78 Park Avenue, 73 Centurion, 85 Riviera, 2000 Century and a 14 Enclave. I’m happy that all of my cars except the 57 46R have found new homes and caretakers. I believe they are all in very good and capable hands! Thank you! The 46R is available, just haven’t gotten around to attempting to sell it! So FRIENDS, I’m not going away, hope to see you in Strongsville, however, just wanted to say “THANKS for the Memories! Ill attach a coupe of pics of cars leaving.

Fleek, thanks for the input! The green one has been setting under a lean-to on a barn for at least 25 years! Finally the barn/lean-to collapsed and that’s how the cab roof got all bent up! You an IH man? I spent 20+ years with them. Actually closed the Memphis plant. Appreciate your input!!
