  1. Looks like that is going to be a really nice car when done! Any pictures of the buckets seats and console? I've never seen a Toronado with them.
  2. Funny how when the first 40* days appear in the spring you find that even a light jacket is too warm. I have wondered myself the reasoning my ancestors used for picking Minnesota when they came over from Sweden, and not a warmer, more temperate state doncha know.
  3. It helps my sanity to remember that in just 2 more weeks on Dec 22nd, daylight starts to get longer again.
  4. That is just plain wrong on so many levels.
  5. I too want to thank you for bringing this subject up. Earlier this year my employer had the entire building re-lamped. This explains why the fixtures were replaced also. When I made mention of it while chatting with our CEO, I got the impression it was a federal mandate for commercial buildings. Now I see there is more to it. I was told it cost the company in the neighborhood of $20k. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. What?!? The phase out of the incandescents was widely reported, but this is the first I've heard of this. So, all 19 light fixtures I have will eventually be worthless? One by one as the bulbs flicker and die out. (The basic 4ft shop lights you can buy at the home store) I've seen those smaller in diameter energy efficient bulbs, but always thought they would work since they appear to have the same 2 pins on the ends.
  7. Saw this over on the H.A.M.B. Oopsie! Judging by the style of the bicycle, this was a practically new car.
  8. First thought that popped into my head was Cadillac.
  9. Those pictures sure bring back a memory! What year are those from? I was able to attend Hershey once in 1976 when I was a teenager. My Dad was helping man the Classic Motorbooks tent,my job was to stay in the trailer parked next to the tent at night to keep an eye on things, which was a great adventure for a 15 year old! I remember the seemingly constant rain and mud, mud everywhere! I don't remember the rain or the mud to bring anything to a halt. Everyone was open for business.
  10. As with everyone else that has posted, I noticed the egregious (to car guys) errors within seconds of the show opening. I made mention of it to my Wife, who is used to such comments from me. Got a bit of a "who gives a darn?" eye-roll as I am used to receiving from her. I kept it to myself from there on out. But I was keeping tally in my head. lol. I don't know why it is so hard. The show Mad Men went out of it's way to make sure everything was as period accurate as possible. Once I saw the error in the years of cars used in the show Vegas, I start looking for other things that may be out of place. I noticed in a diner scene one of the coffee makers had an orange & white warning label of some sort on it.
  11. I recall seeing a fair number of the Impalas back then. Maybe even Caprices? But don't recall ever seeing a Vega or Nova decked out that way.
  12. I think this would be fine for many of us, and is what we are yearning for. A true show about the restoration of cars. Not flip it in a week and see what profit we can make off it. A similar formula has worked for This Old House for over 33 years. Though, in the case of old cars the audience may not be large enough to make financial sense.
  13. I came across that episode during it's last 15 minutes. When they did the review of what they had done to the car, I swear the wheels they showed taken off of it looked like rusty Model A wire wheels. At the time I thought that couldn't be right. Nothing like what is shown in the photo of the original car.
  14. When Jeep used the Buick V6 and named it the Dauntless 225.
  15. I'll second that. I could only stomach a couple of episodes of the US version. Seems like they thought it necessary to dumb it down for US consumption.
  16. There is a sock like filter on the end of the fuel pick up tube inside the gas tank. It could be possible that crud in the tank has loosened and is getting sucked towards that filter clogging it. When you shut the car off, the crud falls away until the next time the engine is running. I've heard of this causing similar symptoms in old cars.
  17. I say it is almost complete as opposed to finished, since in this hobby are we ever really finished? Made some major progress the last 2 weekends buffing paint & getting the trim back on the car. All that is left is the rear bumper, windshield and rear window trim, and get the vinyl top along the quarters glued back down and its trim installed. Planning on driving it Labor Day weekend! Yea! The trim running down the center of the hood is the trim from the '68 hood that I used. I like the looks of that style of trim better than the flat piece used in '70. I have to find some trim clips for the trim on the lower rear quarters just behind the wheel. I have enough for one side, but not both. I either lost the baggie for one side, or enough of them broke when I removed them years ago that I only was left with enough for one side. Fortunately, Metro Moulded Rubber Parts is local to me, and I can run up there on my lunch hour in the coming days to find matching clips, or something that will work just as well.
  18. My best friend owned a Levi Gremlin in the early 80's. I remember it garnered a lot of attention from the ladies because it was "Cute". It was a '77 Olds 98 that made my Father swear off GM cars and drive Hondas for well over 10 years. The last car he owned was a '96 Buick Park Avenue though.
  19. Is it all paved now? I went there once with my Father along with a group from the local CCCA chapter in '74 or '75. My biggest memory of it was it rained and rained. Then rained some more. That meant slogging through mud most everywhere in the parts area, sometimes losing your shoes now and then.
  20. Still following this. Hard to add to what has been said so far. Still wowed by it!
  21. After the first significant snow fall, I pull into an empty parking lot and do some maneuvers with my car just to get acclimated again as to how it behaves in snow & ice. Not in a reckless manner mind you. Plus its fun! On a typical snowy or icy day when I pull out of the driveway I test the brakes a little to get a feel as to how slippery it is. I have to admit, I don't think I will ever get used to anti-lock brakes. Once they activate I feel a bit helpless. I'd rather have full control of them.
  22. Going well! I was able to do the final buffing of the paint last weekend, and started putting chrome back on Monday evening. Putting the trim back on sure is more fun than sanding! I will post pics once it is all together.
