You could check into the cost of a reman tranny in your area and factor that in to your decision. The rough idle could be anything from needing a tune up to a vacuum leak to who-knows-what.

I'm not buying the "residual gas" story. If he's been driving the car "a lot" then the gas that was in the tank couldn't be that old to begin with so even if they recycled it, there should be nothing wrong with it. The A604 transmission is also notoriously problematic, especially the earlier versions (it debuted in 1989) and known for rough shifting before catastrophic failure. 1990 would still be considered an early version. Later versions weren't all that much better.

If I'm not mistaken, the opera windows are Lexan, not glass, so I don't know if etching cream will work or if they will do more than just frost...

Looking at the door sill area, it does look like they went with a metallic LeBaron red - and that the car was originally exotic red. Still, it doesn't look bad although the minivan wheels/hubcaps have GOT to go!

Miami, you could very well be right. I also thought it looked kind of light to be cabernet, but cameras and odd lighting can do funny things to paint. It just looked like a relatively clean car in decent shape for a not too insane price.

Don, these cars leak. Some worse than others. Being a Hand made Italian bodied convertible and all.

We did the epoxy in the holes, PLUS we packed super dense foam below the switches to help support them from below. That was what they did originally and when the foam degraded there was no additional support for the switches, which is why they break in the first place.

Oh where were you 3 months ago? I had a 90 chassis with rough engine but GOOD trans. I held on to the car as long as I could (nearly a year) before I sold it for scrap. Sorry.

Hemi, I could buy a complete running car for the price of your front clip. I personally wouldn't spend that kind of money. The cars just aren't worth it. For both Hemi & Marty, you can get lucky and find someone desperate enough to pay that, but personally, I think that is price gouging.

At least you got pretty white fluffy stuff - we just got cold nasty ice.

I don't know if anyone would be interested, but there is a cabernet TC in a used car lot in Berryville VA on Route 340. The body looks good, no visible rust or has a wrinkle in the fender but could be fixed easily. The ginger interior seems clean; HOWEVER it has non-stock seats in it. They look good with no tears, they're the right colour, but they are not original. Seat controls are missing. It is an 89 8v.

Whole different animal. I can get HID headlamps for my Porsche for $1200/set. I can get halogen headlamps for the same car for $200/set or less. A new HID unit for my MINI is about $1000. A non-HID unit can be had for $100.
