  1. Have you listed the car elsewhere? You've got a car with a special appeal, and you may need to increase the pool of potential buyers to find someone looking for precisely what you're offering. It's a gorgeous car. Many of the folks on this forum are very knowledgeable, a couple of items in your ad sent up red flags, so they asked questions. Certainly no offense intended. Maybe an easier way to market your car is to put it on eBay, set a reserve you can live with, and see what response you get. Good luck!
  2. It would help if you could indicate what you expect the sales price range to be, and what you're looking for in a trade. The amount spent on a restoration often has little correlation with a car's market value.
  3. Those tires weren't described with aspect ratio. All you can do is go back, check the specs, and do your own calcs. Many antique tire websites give you the info to do so. Here's an example: 650-16 Garfield 2 1/2 Inch WW
  4. A 6.50x16 tire diameter would be roughly the diameter of the rim plus twice the tire size, 16+6.5+6.5 inches, or about 29". I guess that would be a 100% aspect ratio? Your speedo will read a little fast with your current tires at the diameter you stated. I don't think the other issues you mentioned would be a problem, with the possible exception of tire clearance on sharp turns, but if you haven't noticed this problem yet, then you're good to go.

  6. The price of posting a FREE AD is to abide by the posting rules. If this forum seems a bit too egalitarian, there are other advertising options that might target a more select crowd.
  7. There's a class of online ad prowlers who get their jollies making offers on cars when they have no intention of buying. I wasted a month with one of those clowns before I sold my '38 Buick. You'll do best for your clients by fully describing the car, offering photos from every angle, and settle on an asking price. Withholding information doesn't add mystery, it just turns off potential buyers.
  8. Now that my '38's down the road, I'm looking for 1955 2 Door Hardtop. Century is first choice, followed by Super, Special, Roadmaster. Power Steering. Two-or Three-Color preferred, but nothing weird. Very Good/Excellent Condition. Will pay $12-15K, or more, especially for a car with good aftermarket AC.   11. Be patient. A nice, unmolested car will turn up, and you may get it for less than this hot rod. Cost of the damage done is substantial. You'll end up spending $30K-plus when you could've bought an original car for $15-20K. Coupes are much lower production than sedans, and are priced accordingly, at least $5K more.
  12. No coping required. They work great. Anyone driving aggressively enough to actually expose the flexibility of the sidewalls is crazy.
  13. Those sizes would all be smaller diameter than stock, raising your engine rpm's. Most of the vintage tire sites give cross section widths on the tires they sell, but even some of the new stock-size (7.00-16) bias ply tires are too wide for the sidemount covers. It'll be difficult (if not impossible) to find radials narrow enough, and still close to stock diameter, to meet your purpose.

  15. Excellent mechanical condition. Front doors have redone wood-grained garnishes, new glass, new Hampton Coach door panels, the rest of the interior is in good original condition. Chrome/stainless in very good/excellent condition. Exterior repaint has a few touchups and cracks. Powder coated and striped wheels. Switched backup electric fuel pump. Electronic ignition, original radio, heater (not connected), turn signals, Appleton fog lights, pressurized radiator, oil filter, radials. Car was cover feature with previous owner in the Sept/Oct 2004 Torque Tube magazine, and pictured/described in the Bugle, August 2008, Pg, 19.   16. A 15" Century wheel mounted with stock 7.00x15 tires is the same diameter as a 16" Super wheel with stock 6.50x16 tires, so if you have 7.00x15's, the speedo should be accurate. Anyone know if the Super bolt pattern matches Century's, or the 15" wheels on the 40-A Special series? I'm guessing a previous owner swapped the wheels to give the car an updated look, but I suppose it's possible the car rolled out of the factory on 15's.
  17. Brocker's Classics has a history of listing superficially great-looking cars at too-good-to-be-true prices. Any potential distance buyer should absolutely get a car appraiser (or a knowledgeable local car club member) to check it out before considering a purchase. This isn't to say the car isn't what it seems, but when a commercial seller lists a car for a great price, be careful.

  19. Sarcasm aside, it's already been bidded up as far as it deserves to be, and maybe more. The seller thinks the provenance of a bunch of paper documents makes it worth more, but unless Elvis was the first owner, no one cares. To the seller's credit, there's a list of some of the problems with the car, but I'm guessing it's the tip of the iceberg. For me, "barn find" is a euphemism for a lot of unpleasant surprises.

  22. I bought a 38-41 in better condition, that I sold some time ago, when the market was stronger for $5K. A recent paint job on a car in that condition isn't a good sign; it was probably intended to cover up problems. $5K max, more like $4-4.5K would be appropriate, especially if you want to turn it and buy a 36-38.
