  1. I'm trying to save what's left of the wood graining on my '38 Special sedan from the sun. Is there anything out there that has some UV protection and won't erase any of the graining I still have? Thanks.
  2. Hi, Peter. What a great source! I'm going to pass the address on to my teacher friends. There's a variety of topics there. Thanks.
  3. Yup, that's it. Is the ring at the front of the chrome piece whole? That's the part on mine that broke.
  4. I need a parking light bezel (the chrome piece that goes between the two halves of sheet metal light housing) for a 1938 Buick. Condition isn't important, as long as it's in one piece and presentable, as I'm selling the car. Thanks.
  5. I've got a 1938 Special sedan, body color is Corot Beige (code 522). It's got red wheels that need repainting. I checked the BCA judging manual, and found that the correct color for the wheels is called Bugatti Red. I can find sources for the body colors, but I can't find anyone who knows the formula for this wheel color. Thanks.

    Clocks

Hi, Joe. I gotta learn to be patient! I tried to clean the clock up, it still wouldn't work, so I took it to a speedometer shop for a quartz retrofit. A $10 1.5v quartz movement you can buy on the internet instead of a $225 12v quartz replacement! I hope everybody with the car clock blues reads your reply. Thanks. Egor BCA 41415
  9. Thanks, Joe and "Old Guy". This discussion has me thinking about how I changed one of my motorcycles' drive sprocket and radically altered the gear ratio at minimal cost. I'm no mechanic, but it seems to me that doing the same to a car would be possible by putting in a pinion gear with 2 or 3 more teeth. I'm sure getting that machined would be expensive, but a Century or automatic gear set wouldn't come cheap, either. Please forgive my ignorance. Egor BCA 41415
  10. Thanks, Joe. I'm guessing what part of the differential a pumpkin might be, but I'm not familiar with that term. Could you clarify? Looking for a 40-55 sounds good. 38 Century rear ends are hard to find, and the Roadmaster rear end was almost as low a ratio as the Special (4.19, I think). Egor
  11. Hi, Tom. The BCA judging handbook is on their website, including all of the acceptable color combos, listed by year. I checked them for the same reason. They don't officially ding you for changing the color, but I've read that judges prefer cars whose color matches the paint code on the body plate. I don't know about AACA. Egor
  12. My '38 Special starts to feel like it's over-revving way before I get up to freeway speed, and the car likes to overheat when it's pushed hard.javascript:void(0) I know there will be a sacrifice in riding comfort if I put 7:50-16's on the car, but the added diameter will bring the effective rear end ratio down from 4:44 to about 4:10. It looks like there's clearance in the wheel wells, but before I buy new tires and tubes, I hoped there was a a success story out there. Somebody would make their fortune manufacturing high speed gear sets for pre-war cars!javascript:void(0)

    Clocks

Thanks, Pete. Somebody sheared off the wiring long ago, I'm guessing because they were tired of a malfunctioning clock running down the battery. Good to hear you had some luck with yours. I'll give it a try. Egor

    Clocks

I've got a 38-41, and wonder if anyone's installed a battery-powered quartz movement in the clock of a similar-year car. I'm not too concerned about preserving the appearance of the back of the clock. Thanks.
