  1. I went out to install my gas tank sending unit and was going to open the hood to disconect the battery. The hood latch would not open the hood on my 48 lc., I have exhausted all of my ideas--any one have a similar situ? Pls advise. Glenn Lorei (b6vt)
  2. about two weeks ago I removed the original sending unit from my 48 lc and found it to be quite corroded. Peecher advised that I contact Sacramento Ford and I ordered a new sending unit. The unit I received is somewhat different in that the electrical workings are open to the gas tank???? This gives me some concern. Does any one have a comment? Please advise. Glenn Lorei (b6vt)
  3. Peecher, As usual you came thru. Thanks so much for the benefit of your experience. It makes the org a great thing to belong. Glenn Lorei (b6vt)
  4. I have removed the gas tank sending unit from the tank and have found it to be a rusty corroded mess. The arm which the float is attached to is free and the diaphram which is accuated by the arm appears to move. How do I tell if the sending unit is working? Should an ohm meter indicate if it is functioning? I tested for a completed circuit and found it to be open. Please give me your experienced advice. B6vt glenn Lorei
  5. I had the same problem. It would probably help to remove the door panel. To remove the door lock tumbler assembly, there is a hole approx 1/4" in diameter on the back side of the door, the hole is perpendicular to the lock assembly, near the outside covering on the door. Using a small light, look into this opening and you will see a screw with an allen wrench head--I don't remember ths size but it is small. This screw is likely siezed so be very careful not to twist it off. I would soak this with a penetrating fluid for at least a week before I put any force on it. I twisted mine off and drilling it out was a major pain in the ----! This screw needs to be backed out before you can remove the lock assembly. Good luck Glenn Lorei (b6vt)
  6. I have a 1948 LC coupe. It needs the door panels, kick panels ,seats , the seat backs all the carpets. Simply put, it needs a new interior except the headliner. If you were going to do this, who would you contact--I need suggestions based on experience. Please share your experience. Thanks (b6vt) Glenn Lorei
  7. maybe it's just me but why did they mess with what appeared to be an excellent system, it will take a learning curve to be able to navigate this like I did before--maybe we will find some improvements, who know? glenn Lorei b6vt
  8. Thank you for replying. Yes I did wire them in parallel and the wire is heavier than the original. The wire size was a previous problem. I have replaced the horn relay and they refuse to blow. I am going to remove horns and clean the points in the horns. Although I tested each of the horns separately by wiring them directly to the battery and they both worked---I am really at a stand still. glenn lorei (b6vt)

  11. I recently installed a set of clam shell horns on my 48lc. The horns are functional--I tested them before I installed them. The horn relay functions when the horn ring is pressed, it doesnt seem to produce enough current to make the horns sound. Any experience out there in Lincoln land ? Thanks Glenn Lorei (b6vt)
  12. The gas guage on my 48 LC reads about 3/4 full. I found out that it was inaccurate when I ran it out of gas. (Embarrasing) Where would you start?---To those of you with gas guage experience. Thanks Glenn Lorei (b6vt)
  13. Take a look at the new 2007 Lincoln Navigator grill. They dusted off the grill work design from the '46 thru '48 design and put it to work on this vehicle. Nice touch. Glenn Lorei
  14. I too am looking for a paper filter to do away with the oil bath air cleaner. I would like it to work in the same container that the oilbath currently does. Does any one have any experience with this? My car is a 48 LC. Glenn Lorei (b6vt)
  15. I am considering installing a 6 Volt alternator on my '48 LC. 5th Avenue (a concern in Clay Center, Kansas which manufactures these alternators) says that I must change the polarity. How will my newly renewed radio react to this--also the clock. Does anyone have an experience with this? Glenn Lorei b6vt

  18. There was a previous posting where someone shared a pump problem. I can't find the posting but it indicated that dismantling the pump was no big deal and it may just require a good cleaning and flushing the system. Replace the fluid with transmission fluid after the thorough flushing and cleaning. b6vt
  19. I have been redoing the wire in various places. I removed the door panel and have noticed that the cylinder is leaking from the top seal where it seals against the ram. This particular cylinger has threaded ends on the top and bottom. Is it possible to reseal this cylinder or will I have to get a new one? Has anyone had a similar experience and can you give me any info? Thanks. Glenn Lorei (b6vt)

Turn the switch to the right, approx 1/2 turn and pull the switch out and youll find that it works like a charm. glenn lorei (b6vt)
