  1. OK, Thanks! I just sent you am email dirrect from my irace25@hotmail account.
  2. Tom, Does your old original glass have a makers mark on it? I am trying to find what that mark looks like.... Any help?
  3. I agree with everyone.. Cost to restore PROPERLY, is far more than the value of the car when completed.... But I too, would already have it on the trailer heading for home....
  4. Need a LEFT HAND THREAD nut for #5 Buffalo wire wheel. This is the large heavy threaded nut that holds the wire wheel to the hub. PLB 5 RS is stamped on the nut. THOUGHT I had one but mine is a #6
  5. Anyone know what the logo "bug" is supposed to look like on 29 Packards? Anyone know the manufactures stamp that was in the glass? How about where the stamp was located on the glass?
  6. Can anyone tell me what the third seat for a 49 to 51 Ford or Merc stationwagon looks like? How about this, does anyone HAVE one to sell??? Seems to me it could be fabricated if I had some photos and measurements..
  7. I am thinking about what to take next year.. The Facel Vega Excelence that has the patinia of a dry lake bed and leather interior as hard and crunchy as peanut brittle. Or my OTHER Trabant that is day-glow pink with hot pink interior, or what... SO MANY Great Cars....
  8. If your springs will not have gators, then be sure each leaf has a small clean radius at each end so it will not scrape across the adjoining leaf as they work... Then use a coating of SLIP PLATE on each leaf where it will meet the next leaf... Slip Plate come in quarts... It is a dry graphite product. The easy way out is to grease them up and cover with gators and be done with it.
  9. We did have a Bentley Mulssane show up for a while... They guy said he thought he was at the wrong show.. The MC that was interviewing him told him to bring it back in 10 years and he would be at the right place then......... After all the depriciation that occurs with these cars, I think the MC was very spot on!! The driver said he best get out of there before his boss or anyone from Bentley found out he was there.....
  10. American LaFrance pumper.. Model 45 I think... MANY of these were sold by LaFrance in the early to late '20's. Very reliable pumper.. Chain Drive, 6 cylinder ... I have worked on two of these models and one ladder truck of the same vintage.. RFD Rutherford F.D. Redmond F.D. Richmond F. D. Who knows??? Citie Fire Departments that could buy a new LaFrance were proud to put the name acorss the hood. I really think that the RFD is for a city name..
  11. No Jay Leno, but the guy that does that TV show about buying cars and sending them to auction was there... He seemed to be outta place, strutting around like he was one of the Big Dogs that you see at up-scale events like Pebble.......... This show is way---- laid back, low key, do what you like park somewhere close to the others in your class, but dont get to crazy about any of it.... A Bribe to the judges is welcomed... We had Pork Rhines and 2-Buck Chuck to offer.. I heard there were some Two Dollar Bills being offered as well..
  12. One of the HUGE problems we have in the INSURANCE INDUSTRY is the CLUELESS Claims adjusters. Most have NO idea that some "Old Cars" are collectible and have a value that does not compute in thier world.... So a 65 Mustang that has a rear 1/4 panel and bumper bent WILL BE DECLARED a TOTAL. UNLESS you know what your car is worth, have an appraisla or some documnetation to back it up and DO Not EVER let an adjuster "TOTAL" your collector car... Your BMW PROBABLY had very little damage to it when some adjuster declared it a total loss. VERY COMMON..... DONT make up some story about damage that really never happened.. Do what you need to do to make it right... But no stories...
  13. This year I blew off the Pebble Beach Concours and drove up the road a few miles to the Concours d'Lemons Car Show... I was invited to bring a couple of my Trabants to show the others how a really horrible car can be produced in mass numbers. The Trabant was very unique in the fact that owners LOVED their Trabi and were greatfull to own them.... I won first in class... The Trabant was considered for the "Most Dangerous Car" award, but missed out to a 400H.P. VW bug. One of the other intersting cars was the VW Bear Bus.. A 59 VW bus that had been used to store grain out on a ranch in Wyoming after a rod knock back in 1980 took it out of service... At some time a bear got inside and began eating the stored grain and also taste tested some of the seats. However, the bear somehow got trapped inside the bus and died...... A few years ago, the bus was opened up and the remains of the bear had decomposed and rotted out the floor of the bus... The remains were removed (after photos taken) and the bus was, uh, cleaned up, some plates were added to the body sections and the engine repaired and then it was presented at the show, COMPLETE with a few of the remaining vertebre from the bear hanging from the rear view mirror.... You just can beat the stories that go with some cars like this one shown at the Concours d'Lemons.
  14. Actually the car is next door... Funny story, I heard about the car a few years back and was trying to contact the seller.... WHEN MY NIEGHBOR walks over to show me the add for this Buick HE wanted to buy.... Yep, same car.... But he knew where the car was.... So I went over to look and WOW! Nice Car... So what to do??? Icalled the guy and never got a call back until some time later..... (After I bought a 41 Cadillac) But my neighbor still wanted the Buick... But the owner told me he had so many calls he had decided to do a backgound check on potential buyers.. I was on the top of the list... My neighbor did not make the list... So I "bought" the car for Bob next door and have "housed" it at his place.......... Now Bob has grown tired of the car and decided to sell.. NICE clean driver... Black car with mostly original paint, nice chrome, interior was redone back in the 80's with a blue cloth (wrong) but looks OK for a driver.. Bob wants 15,000 for the car.. I will forward your email to him..
  15. I too have shipped to both east and west coasts of Austrailia.. But I have lost some shipping to companies such as Cal-Ship (California Shipping in Stanton, Ca.) Be sure you obtain import clearance PRIOR to the car leaving the states. Your import office will not like you if you have not cleared the car first..... TRY to book a multi-car load.. SHARE your container, you will save money... BUT somone will need to be the responsible party for all that is INSIDE the container.. AND, Austrailia does NOT LIKE surpirses when the container is opened.. NO wood products, no personal items, no extras that are not cleared prior to arrival. Your container will probably be off-loaded in China or some other place where it can be taken aside for fumigation........... If they think there is something inside that should not be allowed to survive the trip..... So, I hope this helps a little.... Good Luck and G'Day
  16. For me it was three times.... 1967, 1968 and 1969. All with the same girl... Each time a different car. 1967 was the Junior/Senior Prom.. I was a junior and I drove my mothers 1960 Lincoln Continental. Went to diner in San francisco at the Mark Hopkins hotel. 1968 was my senior prom, took her to the prom in a 1967 Plymouth Satelite that my Dad had traded in on a travel trailer (he owned an RV business back then). That was a nie car, burgundy with matching interior, bucket seats, console and 383.. Fun car.. Bucket seats, not good on a date.. Then in 1969 my girlfriend was a senior, so I came in my 1963 Pontiac Grand Prix 421 425HP, 4-speed NASCAR special.... But her Dad suggested we take his brand new 1969 Chevelle Malibu. Dark blue, with white vinyl top, black interior and ---bucket seats.... maybe he knew something??? I went off to college, she went to the local JC and ran off with the football quarterback.. So I lost her and all the cars exept the 57 Chevy I traded the Grand Prix for...
  17. Anyone have one? COULD be a 4.5 I need.... Not sure exactly, the car is not here.. What have you???

  20. HELP! Did anyone ever get going on making new rubber for the 40 Commander wing windows? I NEED a set to complete a restoration. The car was finished so the original owner cold drive his car before he passed away..... But he never got to see it with the rubber in the vent windows... His widow asked me if I thought this will ever be done.... His son (not a car-guy at all) cant understand why I can not make it happen....
  21. Did anyone finally make the rubber for 1940 Studebakeer Commander??? OR has anyone made up a set using something from another make/model? I finished this car two years ago EXCEPT it is running around with no rubber at all in the wing windows. It fits Comander only..
  22. How about a short review on the wire wheel sizes used on what cars? Hub size 4 4.5 5 wheel size 20 - 21 etc.. Who did what?
  23. Big project. Plenty of rust in the floors. Had accident damage and was taken apart long ago to repair and then sat...... Engine has compression so should still be OK. I have all the trim. Top Frame is VERY GOOD. have all the Skylark wire wheels. Have a new windshield for it. Comes with a complete 53 2-door hardtop donor car that is too good to take apart. Not sure if you would need to take apart the donor.. But Skylark floor needs a lot of work. Clear California title. Car is in Napa, Ca. Asking 50,000 for all. Rod Dahlgren
  24. I sent John a copy of this posting.. He is not on the AACA board and I dont check in as much as I should.
