1. I have a 40 Commander that I can not get the rubbers for the vent windows to fit.. I have Steele part number 18-0005-55. They are too short by about 1 3/4" on the bottom. Top has the relief for the hinge in the wrong location. What part do I REALLY NEED?
2. Can anyone help with a grill badge for 40 LaSalle? Just need a driver quality piece.. This is the badge with the crest and wings that goes at the very top of the grill.
3. OK, I HOPE I can start some talk here... What is the correct COLOR used on 1924 Cadillac wheels? Now, here is what I have so far? I am told that: The wood spokes were ALWAYS painted and NEVER wood finished. That the wheels were all solid black. No the lock rings were always silver. No, the lock rings and inner rings were silver but the spokes and hubs were black. No, the wheels were black and the rings and HARDWARE were silver. Oh and the spokes had pinstripes that matched the color of the striping on the body. So, OK now all you Cadillac experts.. Any ideas? Any photos? Any help? AND was it the same for 1925? Thanks!
4. Just found three cars in a dry garage with concrete floor.. Kinda neet to still fall into a good find like this. I just made a great find but certainly not like the Jay Leno Dusey find! One of the cars is a 32 De Vaux. the others not so rare but since they were all driven into the garage around 1951, they are in decent condition. But the tires have rotted off two of the cars. I need sonme "rollers" to put on the wheels so I can get them all out and onto the trailer. All the wire wheels have been blasted and primed. Anyone have four 18" tires and four 19" tires available? 5:00 to 8:00 should do the trick.. I'm thinking someone not so far away from my in the San Francisco Bay area may have some used tires out back... Yes, when we get these home, we will tell the story..
5. I am wondering if anyone out there has done their own instrument repair or modification. With all the cars we restore and maintain these days, it is getting harder to find good working parts. I have some cars that some of the gauges are not working and nothing is available to replace them. Some have bad sending units and I can?t get then either. So I have had to improvise in many cases. But most of it is trial and error. I would LIKE to find more information about what may be available in the way of technical information and parts suppliers. Does anyone know how to find resistance info for senders and gages? If the one I have is bad, I can not measure the value. If I can not find a source to buy either a new, used or rebuilt, I am stuck with making a guess on what is available and how close it comes to fitting my application. So OK, is anyone out there in the same boat??... uhh, or, same CAR in my case?

10. I am looking for an accessory trunk rack used in the mid-30?s on Cadillacs, Packards, Buicks. This was the style that had two fold-out arms and bolted to the rear bumper brackets with braces that went through the body into the trunk. I have seen them at a few shows on cars and have been asking car owners, parts guys and everyone for help to find this accessory for a few years? There was a picture of one on the back of a FLEETWOOD body on page 18 of the Nov-Dec 2006 Self-Starter. Can anyone help? Email me at funcars4us@hotmail.com Thanks!
11. UBB24-ML-438609-ML- Moving to Studebaker Forum. RWB
12. Can anyone help me find a ready to use unit? This one will go on a 27 Studebaker. I have them on several other cars and I do see appearance differences but seems that all mounts are about the same. This car is just a nice ?driver" so I don't need the exact totally correct original. BUT I DO want to retain the correct operating unit... No dummy unit with an electric pump hidden.. contact me at funcars4us@hotmail.com Thanks!
13. I have a recently gone through 429 that has light lifter noise. When it went together, I was concerned about the lack of depth into the working range of the lifter the push rods were at. Seemed like they only pushed the lifter cup down about 1/4 of the way... Should have been closer to 50% or so.. Anyway, the engine has low speed valve rocker/lifter noise.. Sounds like it has a solid lifter cam from back in the 60's hot rod days. Oil pressure is 40 psi at idle. All push rods are new. All rockers have very good ball seats. All are getting very good oil flow up through the push rods. Engine runs GREAT above idle, LOTS of power. BUT rattles AND has the shakes at idle.
14. Same carb as the one on the 29 Packard 8 I just had in my shop.
15. How clean does it have to be? In other words, do I need to have it acid dipped, maged, miced to see that it is standard, will clean up at .030.... or??? Also, where will it be shipped to??? Freight could be way big bucks... I have a few blocks, but if we are 5000 miles apart.. that aint no help..
16. Well, I did not get any help from anyone so I did it myself. Actually it is pretty easy. Since the entire windshield frame unbolts from the car, you can take it off and put it on the work bench to do it. No crawling around inside the car and no string/rope needed to pull the rubber over the pinch weld.. The rear uprights have two studs into the body and these are the most important and ?hardest? to reach, but no big deal. The rest of the studs can be seen under the instrument panel. Be VERY careful when removing the complete unit, as the uprights are cast material and have two 10/32 screws on each ear fastened to the lower setting channel. These need to be removed then the upper bar and uprights can come off the old glass. The lower setting channel is next. I put my new rubber onto my new glass and after cleaning up the frame pieces and painting the lower steel setting channel with POR-15 I lubed up the rubber and channel and slid it all back together. Then put the attaching screws back through the uprights into the setting channel and it was ready to go back on the Corvette. A word of advice, semi-tighten the four studs at the base of the uprights first. You do not want to pull the lower setting channel off the bottom of the glass at this point! So use some care and be sure you have all the other studs into the proper holes in the body before tightening any of the nuts. My Corvette has a very nice rubber gasket under the windshield so I re-used it. A new one would be advised on cars that have seen all weather driving. Hope this helps you to go ahead and try your luck at this. Many of us are not down the street from shops that will work on out old cars. I actually have two very good glass shops near me who both say they will NOT install glass in any collector car or any car that does not have a ?glue-in windshield?. They can do fifteen glue-in jobs to one collector car job and never have a come-back, broken glass or leak complaint.. We are on our own!
17. I have a thermostat that is hanging up. The shutters and all linkage move freely. The shutters somtimes stick full closed and if I give them a push, (when engine is warm) the snap open. Any help? Sure is LOT of tension on them... Seems like much more than some of the other brand cars I work on. Any recomendation for a GOOD rebuilder........
18. ANYONE able to help? All that is left to complete the car... Than ks
19. The steering box on the 36 series 75 I have here is in bad shape. I NEED a good one or parts to rebuild this one.... This box mounts across the top of the frame. series 75 is not the same as some of the others. I have had help from members but so far the parts have all been for the smaller box. Any help ...... 20. Practice makes perfect.. Get some medium tan spray paint. put it on a test piece.. then get a tube of some raw umber at your local art supply. kind of brush it onto the tan base coat, then use a medium length paint roller pad to sweep over the raw umber... get the picture? You can chage base colors and the art supply paint tube colors to get where you want.. I have seen guys do faux marble with the same stuff..... Then when it looks abou tright, start laying clear over the top .
21. You need the help of an AACA member that does appraisals. take a look at i-van.org these guys are active members of AACA and almost every other club in existence.
22. Tod, The Chevy has wood framed body. If the wood needs to be done. Big change in value. I have a 32 Chevy sedan and the wood is not doing very well... It has a good history of indoor storage but time and weather take their toll on the wood.. So, VERY hard to say what value you have there in the Chevys
