  1. Thanks. I called it line boring and wondered if I had been mispronouncing it. My engine is being line bored (or align) as we speak. A lot of issues not to mention that the previous rebuilder epoxied then welded the bolts holding the weights on the crankshaft. Got some shop time to pay for as those weights need to be removed to grind the crankshaft:(
  2. So what is the difference between "align boring" and "line boring"?
  3. I got under the car today and did some further analysis. Even if I used the cross over tail pipe section, the exhaust system is short by about 17". The difference is entirely in the length of the muffler. Appears to me I was maybe shipped an exhaust for a 900 or 901 which has a shorter wheelbase. So based on the floor indentations, exhaust hanger holes and the length of the exhaust system, I think Waldron shipped me the wrong exhaust system for my car.
  4. This gets interesting. I went to remove the tail pipe section today. On the right side of the car floor right above where the exhaust loops around the rear axle, there is an indentation on the floor to give clearance to the exhaust. There is no such indentation on the other side. Also there are no holes for an exhaust bracket on the rear left of the car. So I'm thinking maybe the exhaust came from the factory exiting on the right. Perhaps other 32s had it exiting on the left but a coupe roadster had it on the right. Also I have a late 32 delivery car so don't know if that had anything to do with it.
  5. I spoke with Joe, the owner of Waldron. He appeared readily wanting me to have a correct system on my car and to be a satisfied customer. We discussed at length the service letters changing the possible location of the exhaust tail pipe. he did locate some pictures wehich show the tail pipe exiting the left rear. So we agreed that I would send back his tail pipe and also send him my tailpipe section from the car which he will replicate. Since I don't an engine in the car, I can only estimate how long the tail pipe should be. So he will make it longer and when I'm ready to install, I will just cut off the extra length that fits into the muffler. I am going to pick up shipping both ways. I think it's a fair deal, and I like the way Joe treated me as a customer. Thumbs up for Waldron.
  6. Another question Owen. So would or could use the insulating exhaust wrap they sell vs adding a metal heat shield. Also would you insulate the muffler with the a type of material that Max Max Merritt advertises. I hav ethe deluxe 8 32.
  7. Dave, Interesting. My current exhaust has a heat shield on it near the rear. I saw a 34 on the PAC forum which has the exhaust straight back like mine. I did PM you on the PAC forum, but I just discovered I do have the service letters. So looks like a cross over pipe or a straight pipe is correct though not desirable with the current ethanol gas we have. So I'll ask Waldron probably to bend me a another pipe free of charge as their pictures on their web site show a straight back pipe and not a cross over.
  8. I just got my 32 coupe roadster exhaust from Waldron and it has the exhaust tail pipe coming out the rear on the drivers side. My current exhaust exits straight back from the passenger sode. Which is correct? Also what heat shields should be used on the exhaust. I see Max Merritt has one for the nufflker. Is this correct. My current muffler looks like it has a heat shield on it as it goes over the rear axle.
  9. Need to add a S to the web link Quality Restoration - Steering Wheel Restoration
  10. OK, so I'm confused what is correct for a 32 Packard. I had purchased the wet blanket material from EHP. Is the ehaust pipe supposed to have a wrapping pattern like Pete's 28 Packard? I'd like to do this correct.
  11. It insulates the exhaust header pipe to keep heat down in the engine compartment. Also used to avoid deductions at a judged meet;)
  12. I don't think they are available. Mine fell apart in my hands when I took them out. So to options. Wire the lights without the connector, though that means you need to cutthe wires if you ever remove the lights. 2nd option I took was I found a 4 wire connector that actually was a pretty good press fit. I can't remember where I gotthe connector but it might had been at a marine supply store.
  13. ou mean he didn't stick the Met in the Packard's trunk?
  14. Available from Bruce Blevins for $10 a piece. http://www.packardsoforegon.com/graphics/EXCEL97%20Version%20Catalog.pdf
  15. For wrapping the exhaust head pipe, what would be the correct material to use. Any pictures on how the wrap is secured. My car when I acquired it had this cotton like material secured with what looks like baling wire. I was looking at exhaust wrapping material from http://www.restorationstuff.com/RSC27.pdf
  16. Fpr my education, can you explain why blow by will do what you describe? Thanks.
  17. Got word from Coker today that the spare lock ring I sent to them is a good match with the ones they are making. They are about $250 chromed.
  18. Also for future reference, I'm building a database on our club website for suppliers, services etc. $200 is cheap when you can't find a new one.
  19. What position did you mount the coil in? Some oil filled coils require you to mount them in a vertical position as the oil inside cools the windings.
  20. I finally got to read your hard drive sag so now I no what you are talking about. Would you be wise to use an online backup service. They run about $50 year which seems very reasonable for peace of mind they offer.
  21. Not really lowered it but anything above .08 you get a DUI. Anything under .08 can still get you arrested is in the opinion of the officer you are impaired to drive. I think that is a bs law as it brings judgement into play. If a cop doesn't like your looks, he can bring a serious DUI charge against you.
  22. I'll try to get more info about the radio at next months meeting.
  23. Met a 1930s Packard owner atthe HCCA meeting tonight. It has 90K miles on the original engine and he has put 60K ofthose miles on. Engine has never been rebuilt and he drives it at freeway speeds. One interesting thing is he claims it has an in-dash radio, and that it came delivered from Packard that way. I had thought the first in-dash radio for Packard was in 33 or 34, and 32 was the first year you you could get a radio though it was steering column mounted tuner.
  24. Easy to get parts for these cars but not always cheap i.e brake drums $100. Will have trouble with window motors. That is a problem spot with restored cars. Also you have some vacuum tubing for the door locks, parking brake and rear vent. Brakes will stop you, but don't tail gate. These 64 are not that rare. If it is a three then you are over priced.
