  1. From what I seen, there's about a $50K price difference between a 32 Deluxe 8 and a standard 8 coupe roadster. That said some Packard guys won't even look at a standard eight even though it's very much a great car like the Deluxe 8 and Twin Six. Very nice condition 32 Deluxe 8 coupe roadsters go anywhere between $200K and $250K. Saw one sell in the spring for around $270K. That was a little high in my opinion. I think $50K is way too little. I think this car be closer to the $100K range. Please note there was no Super 8 for the 900 series. It was called the Deluxe 8.
  2. We're around quite abit with our cars. Just had our monthy Packacd Club meeting in Aloha. Next one is the 2nd tuesday in October if you want to come by. It's at the Peppermill Rest. Eat dinner at 6 PM and meeting starts around 7 PM. Usually a short meeting. They always have 9.99 buffet special. In nice weather we get about 6-7 Packards driven to the meeting. We had 6 cars there Tuesday night including Jeremy's and mine.
  3. Actually PB Blaster apparently has good marketing but in real life there are btter things. I know the mag Skinned Knuckles did a test, a PB Blaster if I remember came in quite low in their ratings. I did find a post from another mag called Machinist Workshop that did some testing. nothing 516 lbs WD-40 238 lbs $0.25 PB Blaster 214 lbs $0.35 Liquid Wrench 127 lbs $0.21 Kano Kroil 106 lbs $0.75 ATF/Acetone mix 53 lbs $0.10 (1:1 mix) Looks like I may go into business with the Acetone/ATF mixture.
  4. John, Where are you located and what where youthinking for the 32 trans?
  5. Well the transmission seems to be pretty much fixed. I took a much longer ride than I had today and notice that the oil pressure dropped to about 25 pounds at 50 mph. I'm wondering if the .060 restrictor needs to be smaller. Also the car is running hot. I being told bythe mechanic and others that until thecar breaks in (500 miles) it will tend to run hot. I don't know if a rsdiator recore is inmy future. Had the radiator flush out two years ago. Reflushed it again o the car. Is is frustrating. Engine sounds great with no smoke or oil usage. I cannow rive with the top down:)
  6. What I did is take the fitting, tap it for a allen head plug. Then drill the allen head at .063. Brought the oil pressure up to 10 when idling and 30-40 lbs when driving. The engine is done but I still have problems. Number one is overheating. Number two is the transmisison is in worse shape now then before it was rebuilt. Keeps popping out of 4th gear when you lift off the gas. Only way to stop it is to keep hand on the stick. Also sometimes at a complete stop, gears ares still spinning so you got a clash. May try 140 wt oil to see if that helps. Not a happy camper right now.
  7. Does anyone know where you can acquire these restrictors. Also if you were to make one, is there a spec?
  8. Peter, Great infomation on the distributor and rotors. West, I found this ad for NOS rotors on the CCCA website. PACKARD, Distributor rotors NOS. 1928-1932 8-cylinder and 1932-1939 12-cylinder. Kenneth Johnson, Carmel, IN 317-818-0877. I need to get myself a spare rotor. Found out I had a spare cap I forgot about.
  9. West, Max Merritt shows the same cap for STD 8 and Super 8 1928 to 1932. In the parts book it shows the 8th and the 9th series being the same part, bu tthe 7th series being different. So that differs from what Max's website shows. I would go to Max as a good place to start. Just bought a rotor. Paid $90. He wanted $500 for his caps. He claim the reproduction mold was broken and no new ones would be made.

If you want to try woodgraining without investing much, read this Packards of Oregon
  11. Start with a large fortune. Seriously there are a lot a cars available that are quite nice cars under $20K. Are you thinking you will save money by buying a car for a few thousand and then restoring it? You'll have a lot more in it at the ned which will surprise you. Take any budget and multiply it by 1.5. If you want to do that I would advise buying a convertible. They may cost more in the beginning, but are worth a lot more in the end. This web site Car Restoration is an excellent place which discusses what it takes to restore a car. The centerpiece of the site just happens to be a 46 Packard restoration. it is very accurate site which will give you al the information you could ever want on how to restore a car from the 40s.
  12. Sound good. I'm about a week a few months later than I thought from getting my engine installed from the rebuild. Evrything was gone through so hopefully no surprises.
  13. Swap meets and Ebay seems like the best bet. Not too many 32 Packards around so it should be a limited interest. A similiar thing happened to a 1909 CAdillac. The brass was stolen from the car while in storgae. parts were located at a swap meet. Police were called and the seller was arrested. I know this won't happen but emotionally I wish they give 50 year prison sentences to those who steal old car parts. Seems more of an injustice than if they stole a big screen TV.
  14. I see a window on ebay all the time. I think that John Ulrich might be the guy, but I'm not psoitive. John Ulrich - Packard Parts from 1928-1947 4184 Garden Lane El Sobrante, Ca. 94803 (510) 223-9587
  15. As I said I just torgue them until their snugged. Go through a heating and cooling cycling and snug up anythat are loose. Then after driving the car a little bit, I check them again. I have also had the pleasure of stripping the brass nut thread, so I take it easy. More is not always better.
  16. I think that would be justifiable homicide:) Of course then you have the crowd of car owners think it's ridiculous that some of us maintain and finsih our cars to a high standard and wonder why we get upset when some idiots have no idea how to treat a car that doesn't belong to them.
  17. I bought my metal clad ones from Olsen Welcome To Olson's Gaskets! on my 32. No problem with them. I did use a light coat of anti-seize. I also tighten them in a series of three steps i.e. lightly tighten, more, than final.
  18. Ditto on a 32 packard. Even deflated, I had to force them in. What bugs me is that these place sell vintage tires should make you aware of the issues especially when they see you buying 6 tires.
  19. Not sure why you would expect the insurance compnay to give you extra above the agreed value. The policy is written so that the agreed value is what the insurance company will pay for. If the $1200 had increased the value of the car, you should have raised the agreed value. It sucks that you just stuck $1200 into the car, but the insurance company held up there end of the contact.
  20. I like it whenthey say, here's another rare Corvette:) And I hate the term tribute car. At least clone was appropiate.
  21. I just have to roll my eyes as one of the Speed TVs announcers says after the other announcer said that the car on the auction block (55 chevy) had a disc brake upgrade for a 5 Chevy- "I wouldn't buy a car I couldn't take out and drive". What he meant to say, is I'm a wuss and any old car I buy has to drive and handle like a modern car. If he could he'd would drop a Chevey 350 in every car 50 years and older, he would. Part of the beauty of old cars and driving as the people did back when that car was new.
  22. Ifeel comfortable with this shop. The guy ho is coordinating everything used to work for Hil and Vaughn. Unfortunately in Oregon we just lost one of the guy who did many old engine rebuilds.
  23. Don't know. What I have on there now is one long single muffler. What was shipped to me was a muffler about 17" shorter and that is where the difference in the two exhaust systems are.
  24. That's is what they are planning to do. I had to laugh as they told be they were unf****king the engine:)
  25. Thanks. The tail pipe piece does crossover after the axle. I preferring it to go straight back. Won't cost any more but don't want to be heating up the gas tank anymore than I have to. And it's correct per the Packard service letters. I just can't figure out whythey would ship an exhaust system that was a foot and a half too short.
