  1. I have a feeling that there might not be the club I am looking for and I do attend some local shows but wanting to do a little more like getting with fellow old car people and driving them to shows and other places togather instead of just doing it myself, when it comes to the VCCA I should have joined a local chapter as they would probably be more forgiving and I would not have to put up with only the politics of the main club. But since I usually have multiple brands the single brand clubs are about useless to me and a waste of money so I am looking to get more bang for the buck when it comes to a car club,I will accept the offer for the membership of the AACA and local chapter to see how I get along and go from there. I have no problem with all original old cars its just I do not want to own one that would have to be trailered to shows a long distance from home,I do not own a trailer and realized its cheaper to just drive the car to the show so whatever I own has to play well with modern traffic and travel on the highway but still look like what its supposed to be. I will not be coming in the AACA telling anyone they need to do what I have done to my vehicles but just looking to have some fun and attend more events if they are not too far from where I live.

  2. My 37 Chevy p/u is technically my first car and I learned to drive it in farm fields with no brakes and I still have it and its in much better shape now,the first car I drove on the streets is a 65 galaxie my uncle bought new and me and my friends trashed. I was starting to get it back in shape when someone pulled in front of me and done it in,I could have fixed it again but it was in the middle of winter and no where to fix it until spring.

  3. I am going to take the offer from Tom and see how I like it,the single brand clubs are ok but I am getting tired of them and I do not think there are any clubs locally that I can join. There used to be a few car clubs locally years ago but I have not heard anything about them for many years so I do not they are still around,I just want to get out and do something with fellow old car people and not just sit in lawn chairs behind my car.  I just want to find a club where any old vehicle is accepted and yes I do know what the AACA is about that is why in my first post I was thinking it could be a major problem if I were to join but other then the Goodguys or the NSRA what club is out there that I could really feel at home in where I can have any old vehicle and not be 100 percent original. I am a member of the VCCA and feel out of place there and also a member of the Crown Victoria Association that has no problems with modified vehicles but felt out of place with my driver quality car among the 90 percent trailered cars at the show this past summer so where does one like me go.

  4. I am in two brand specific clubs and since I always have more then one brand I am thinking about dropping both and joining one that I can bring any of my vehicles too but there will be a big problem with the AACA since none of my vehicles are 100 percent original and I doubt I would ever put them back that way, since I never show in judged shows I would never enter any of my vehicles in the shows but are there other AACA events I could attend in a reasonable distance from where I live to make it worth it to join. I also thought about the NSRA and Goodguys but they eliminated the Indianapolis event leaving only the Columbus and the NSRA event in Louisville is the closest,I want to join a club to get the best bang for my money and get out and do something but I have a feeling there might not be anything for me so anyone have any ideas.

  5. Speaking of the colors of the 50s vehicles,I was at the Crown Victoria associations convention this summer with my 55 sunliner and someone who was much younger then me came up and asked if all the cars from the 50s were that colorful and I said yes.  He must have only seen the drab not so shiny colors from the 80s and up,I told him they aslo had nice colors up through the 60s too and I wish I was going to be able to be in Daytona over thanksgiving but will not be able to make it. It's nice to see old pictures like that:  They show

the car models and colors that were prevalent.

Today, many people restore the top-of-the-line models,

leaving every other model pretty much ignored.

Yet in that picture there may not be a single

1957 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible or 2-door hardtop!

  6. Is the 55 a car that you have to keep all original, the reason I ask is a 57 to 62 intake and carb swap along with a 57 to 62 distributor will make it run much better. In 57 the 2 and 4 bbl carbs were changed along with a distributor with mechanical advance where the original distributor has only vacumn advance.

  7. I build mid 50s and newer for my highway cruisers and keep the prewar stuff for local use only,my prewar experience has been light trucks only and they just do not feel right above 65 even with much modifications and there is no way I would ever take one on a trip to Florida like I do in my 55 Ford convertible. Prewar and slightly after cars might be better then the trucks but I have never really driven one much.

  8. I think it was 53 when they got insert bearings in the 235 and it was also the last year for the 216 that still had dippers,if I can find a 37 216 I am thinking about converting it to full pressure and inserts.

I don't know if this is relevant, but Chevrolet went to insert bearings in '49(?), or thereabouts.
  9. I might put a 216 back in my 37 if I could find one I could hear run and possibly ride in or drive but all I have found were motors that have been pulled and given the story it ran when parked, spent time and money getting my 37 more highway friendly and then the 235 develops a rod knock shortly after. I had two 216s but only driven them around farm fields and curious on how they would do in modern traffic.

  10. If those splash oiler motors were only good up to 60 or a little more how did any survive past the 60s when the highway speeds got over 70 or is that why there are a bunch sitting in junkyards,my 37 does not have a 216 but a post 54 235 so the motor can handle highway speeds but the way it handles and feels above 65 is a little questionable

  11. My 37 just does not feel right going over 70 with the way it handles,it feels more comfortable at 55 or 60 as a top speed then any higher speeds and have taken it on 25 mile trips going 65 on the highway with no problems but its no where like driving a newer truck at those speeds. I guess if I would make a streetrod out of it with more modern suspension it would probably do better but I do like the old truck feel so that is where its going to stay,I was hoping the 4 inch drop in the front and 3 inches in the rear sould have made a bigger difference but it still seems a little top heavy on turns.
