Just over priced food around here,I try to eat before going in and will usually only buy water. sometimes will get a soft pretzel of other snack and then eat a good dinner when I get home.

You might want to check in the Buick section, probably will have to make your own mounts on this swap.

I first ran into this new cars as show cars back in the late 80s,I done some warranty seat repair on a fairly new Sunbird convertible and was asked by the owner to do a good job because it was a show car. I came close to telling them to find a old car and restore it but had to bite my tongue and fixed it,yesterday I was at a truck show and there were a few early to mid 90s trucks in it and realize they are getting up there in age but walked past them and looked at the trucks I very seldom see. Late weekend at the local cruise in we we discussing historical tags on mid 80s vehicles which seems strange since it seems like yesterday that they were new.

The mice have gotten in the engine compartments and I did check the motor of the 72 and its not stuck,no they are not parts cars but would make nice drivers and both have real nice tops and interiors. Will have pictures before the end of the week.

My neighbor has a 64 and 72 Impala convertibles that have been sitting in a pole bar and not run for about 8 years, both are Ohio cars that had rust repairs and repainted but are decent cars that need a good cleaning and the normal things to get running. I am going back over with a light so I can look at the floors and really go over them and get pictures, today was the first time I seen them in over 10 years and initially thought they were nicer then they are but told her I thought that she should take no less then 6000 for the 72 and the 64 should be worth at least 10,000 if the floors and frame are good.

I have a truck to sell and then I can start looking.

The more I think about it if the torsion leveling suspension can not be removed and the regular suspension bolted in I think I will go on to my other choice and look at late 50s Chrysler or Desotos since I do know the better brakes from the mid 60s will bolt on and slightly newer drivetrains can be made to work with out major surgery,I would love to have a mid 50s Packard and even though I could probably get one real reasonable the cost to make it the way I want it would bust my budget.

To be honest and do not want to ruffle anyones feathers but I doubt I would use the Packard drivetrain and would adapt modern brakes,I know there will be no parts available for the original drivetrain at todays parts stores and do not want to carry a trunk load of spares. I have a 55 Ford sunliner that I use for long distance trips with updated drivetrain and brakes that I drive 70 to 80 on trips to Florida but since its a convertible I can not lock it without the worry of a cut top so I am looking for a car to replace it and its going back to a more original drivetrain and will keep it local. I have been looking for a 55/56 Ford sedan or hardtop to use but have found I can get that year of Packard cheaper then a Ford or GM product of those years, since I am not very familiar with that torsion leveling system I would rather have the conventional system and go through it and do some updates so if there is a problem I will not be stranded for too long. If I do get one my plans are a stock looking Packard with modern drivetrain, brakes and electrical system so I can fly down the highway with little worries and I do not want to do what most would do and put another front suspension under it. My 55 Ford has the original suspension and works just fine and feels like a mid 50s car which is what I would want to do to a Packard if one finds its way into my driveway,if quality issues with those years done the company in I will improve the car to my liking but its not going to be with all Packard parts. I do not own a trailer so it has to be driven

If I get one I am going to use it as a long distance driver and want the one with that would be simple to repair on the road if something would break.

I would like to find a 55 or 56 to build but was wondering if they all had that torsion leveling suspension or did any have a regular suspension.

I have seen some but do not know who owns them.

For those who think 50s cars handle bad my 53 Olds with a worn out front suspension was much better then my 37 Chevy p/u that has been rebuilt, after it was rebuilt it handled great and cruised it at 70 to 80 on the highway. I also have a 55 Ford convertible that handles great and it also goes down the highway at 75 and 80 with ease,I now add power brakes to every old car I get as I want to stop since were are playing on the same roads with cars with 4 wheel disc brakes that are much lighter. I love the 50s cars since they were still the majority on the road when I was old enough to see out the windows back in the early 60s and would like to see the prices go down so I could afford more of them.

After reading all the posts I am going to doubt the mileage on any old vehicle I buy.

I enjoyed watching it and was hard to keep from thinking the daily drivers were not part of the show.

I know where a couple of that era Chryslers are in a junkyard but the motors have been open to the elements for at least 50 years,if I get down there soon I will look at them.

There is no way I would try to enter a show with a non refundable 50 dollar fee if the vehicle was not accepted, even thought its only 50 dollars I just can not throw away any amount of money.

Going to need a 2 groove water pump pulley and harmonic balancer from a 52 to 56 motor.

When asked to sell my 55 sunliner I tell them they could find a restored version much cheaper,I tell them that my dad bought it new and will not listen to offers until over a half million so that usually sends them away.

Since its a spin on filter a Motorcraft Fl1A will work and should not matter if a 292 or 312.

Glad to finally see a photo Jeff, I always enjoy the unusual sight of a 1955-56 Ford with solid paint and not two-tone.
Its kind of 3 shades of the color right now,its had some repairs years ago and I painted what I repaired with only the hood and doors and possible the trunk lid the only original paint.

What drive train do you have in it now?
Cheers,

351-W and C-4 trans, maverick 8 inch rear end and granada disc brakes, the disc brakes and rear end will stay when it gets another Y block. I want to be able to stop and like the highway gears, the tallest gears available in 55 were 3.30 and it has 3.00 in it now and should do fine with a Y block and most likely a FMX trans. I really would like to put a manual trans in it but its just a cruiser so it will most likely stay a automatic and the FMX is the latest version of the original trans.

I have people telling me I should put every fancy thing that was available on it but no way I like them simple and that is the way it was ordered. I was shocked that the radio was 87 dollars and was more then the better heater.

I had a few Olds with the Hydramatics and then got to drive a Buick with a Dynaflow and did not like it,I like the firm shifts of the Hyrdamatics.
